Hoping someone who has been through this will be able to provide some info. First, get the following out of the way:
* Yes I know scholarships are rare so we are feeling a bit blessed
* Yes I know there is merit money available through other means
* Yes I know about academic dollars and how they are normally guaranteed for your four years
* Yes I know about P4 conferences and how those dollars differ from the rest of the conferences
* Yes I know there are great opportunities in other conferences and many of those players and teams are nothing to sneeze at
I read on here a couple of years ago that a college pulling a scholarship on a player is very rare, even if it is technically possible. Recently, someone posted about their kid's scholarship and there was a reply about a player who had theirs pulled even after accumulating a good amount of minutes (I think they said 1,000 +/- ?). So, with the understanding of nothing is guaranteed, anything is possible, etc., how likely or often does a school not meet their agreement when signing a player?
Reason I ask is my daughter has been offered a scholarship, and it gets larger each year. It starts out relatively small, and increases each year to graduation. As I look at a budget for her tuition, how realistically should I count on what they have said?
Last Q, if you qualify for either financial aid, or academic dollars, is that taken into account? I guess, for example, say tuition is $60,000 and we would qualify for some other aid, does that aid drop as the scholarship increases? Like, "we're getting $35k out of you one way or the other"
I'm one who likes to look at an entire picture, sometimes exhaustively, before making a decision or suggestion ;-) so as my daughter considers the other factors in her college of choice, what my financial outlay over the next four years is one of those considerations.
