Does anyone have first hand, personal experience with GA versus ECRL? At first blush I’d assume GA events would get better exposure as it should be a step above ECRL, but is that actually the case?

That being said, losing a handful of top GA clubs to ECNL for next year will likely affect the remaining GA clubs’ ability to hold on to players as they get to high school. I still don’t see college coaches abandoning GA in favor of ECRL across the board, but with limited budgets, ECNL could continue to try to work ECRL/ECNL showcase schedules that allow schools to hit both in one trip, which would be attractive.

It’s all very relative. If you look at rankings in the state per age group you can see some regional teams usually Stars are ranked in the top ten by birth year. However NEFC GA is always above them. NEFC GA is in the top 5. The changes to GA with adding the weaker RI clubs and many other weak clubs, in addition to NEFC focusing on boys makes me think NEFC may be struggling. I think the training is very team specific. If your training with good players and have a good coach then for this year anyway I would stay put. It seems like too many changes going on to switch clubs, teams, follow coaches. See how things shake out for GA before leaving NEFC GA for ECRL teams. What’s most important is, is your player happy on current team?

When you see these types of comments, I always wonder how old this type of person is? What do they do for a job? Are they actually responsible for people in their life?
A really mature, motivated, responsible professional in life! Congrats on achieving your goals in life for today!

The comparison is between NEFC GA and Stars RL, since that’s the topic of this thread.
NEFC GA is currently ranked 1-5-2-2-2-2 in MA across U13-U19 in the Rankings app.
Stars Blue RL is ranked 6-8-6-9-21-7. They’re the top-rated ECRL team in MA every year except U17, where Stars White is 9th.
Of course there’s a lot more to “ECRL vs. GA” than the competitiveness of the top team in each league, but since you asked, that’s the data.

NEFC GA: 5-4-2-4-3-5
Stars Blue RL: 11-9-9-8-12-6
Looking beyond the ratings, I’ll definitely agree that there are quite a few non-competitive matches in GA Northeast.

What do college coaches make of all this? I get the sense that ECRL is “no go” for some D1 programs. I’m not talking top 25 D1 programs. I mean local D1 programs that complete in New England. GA seems to be viewed as on par with ECNL at least from a recruitment perspective and college attendance at showcases.

That however was the current/past landscape. Coach attendance at GA events has already dropped year to year. They acknowledge the diminishing value of GA events as the league standards have dropped. The coaches don’t care about the badge except for what it can do to help predict success at the next level. Neither ECRL nor new-GA allow a coach to envision success at the next level.
