Surf's girls program is much stronger than the boys so they are smart to let the girls program dictate the direction of the club. In the short term, ECRL2 might be a mixed bag for the girls with some increased travel without a corresponding increase in the level of competition. But they really didn't have a choice. Until a few weeks ago, they might have been happy to accept a GA invitation, but GA is a different animal today after SSS locally and Nationals and some others nationally defected to ECNL. Surf will have an uphill climb to get to the ECNL level with Stars and SSS blocking their applications going forward, but it's not hard to see why the GA/DPL path, and NAL if you want to toss that in, was losing its shine.
For the tagalong Surf boys program, this is also a net win. Yes, they're going to have to travel a lot for a middling program, but they had ECNR2 dropped in their laps when they weren't going anywhere on their own merit. And if they can leverage the ECRL2 badge and improve a little, ECNL might not be too big of a reach because ECNL Boys only have Stars (and maybe adding Bolts East if you believe the rumors) in the area and might look to add another local club or two from its ECRL Boys ranks.

It's just a rumor. Not actually happening.

NE Surf girls are going to Northeast RL, aka ECRL2. Boys are going to ECNL RL North Atlantic.

It hasn’t happened until social media says it happened.

Their top boys teams have been competitive and have beaten NAL/ECRL teams at recent tournaments. Take a look at their result at the NEFC (fall & spring), Jeff Cup results. Their U17 team beat NEFC’s MLS and NAL teams. Outside of SUSA and the Bolts, the boys ECRL are pretty weak. They’ll be just fine in ECRL.

technically not true....they list DPL as the league for their Surf State Navy program but the icon in the graphic is ECNL-R so I suspect it's just sloppy website updates

Yeah they need to hire a new content editor. They can't be in dpl and ecRl at the same time.

They are in DPL for league games this spring and in ECRL2 for tryouts.

NE Surf are well equipped to dominate the ECRL
and break into the ECNL in the next few years. Just depends if their 2014s, 2013s, 2012s and 2011s can perform well for the next few years. That’s their most exciting teams bro.
