Maybe the point is they don’t all need to be tall or small. Maybe the point is picking the best team of players made up of uniques skills, heights, and awareness. I think the game is more accepting of small clever players than ever before, but tall athletic players arent going to be elimnated from the equation.

Ah good because no one typed “all players” above. The example was where all else is equal on agility and technical. You just filled in the rest with your imagination.

Let us know when your tall kid levels up to have equal skills and agility. Then we will pay attention.

I know of multiple highly skilled short/small mids.

From a distance they look super amaziing running up and down the 11v11 field.

However, when you comapre them to an equally skilled taller player you quickly realize that they look amazing because they're taking 2x the number of steps as a taller player.

Players are becoming more athletic and bigger everywhere. The game at pro level is less creative and more physical and tactical now. Spain has a couple of unicorns, but in general players are getting bigger .

I don’t know much, but I do know that if Haaland or Ibrahimovic were in the USYNT pipeline, they would not be thrown out in favor of a 5’2” whippet. Look at any NCAA tournament team and there are tons of 6’1”+ offensive players. (WMU had a 6’5” American born first team all-American this year). Dempsey, Altidore, McBride etc are all over 6’0”.

On the girls side, NCAA D1 soccer is all about size. Finding kids shorter than 5’4” is a rarity. Most players are 5’6”+. Solar put six kids on the U15 USYNT because they looked like a college team. Three of the kids were 5’11”+.

Locally… Sentnor is a pretty decent players for UNC. 5’3” with multiple YNT call ups. Size is overrated, skill is the value. I think you’ll see the new coach emphasize creativity, skill, possession over sending the ball long to an athlete. Again…you wouldn’t want 11 players her size nor would you want 11 Horans, its a team made up of different sizes and skills, not wrestling match.

Size is over-rated except when everyone else is 3-6" taller than one outlier smaller player. To succeed the shorter player must have greater than average skills. Not many do

Already there and you see it on every drill when players are training together and shows up in games. Club admins focused on a couple short kids at U10 a few years ago and that’s not changing despite their decline relative to the rest of the team. I honestly don’t think anyone really watches them very closely so while they will still make plays they are not distinct or unusual in anyway these days relative to the rest of the team (pygmillion effect). I know I’m not alone and I’ve personally seen this movie before.

What do you consider short for women? Ave woman is 5-4. So anything below? I don’t buy into your height theory but would love to know where your cut off is between Ave and short.

New to the discussion but look over rosters and you will rarely find players under 5'3". Sure they're out there but the majority will be at least 5'4" and up. Mostly taller than average.

I watched a practice yesterday and I observed the small ones going against the tall ones. Without fail the short ones couldn’t come close to getting around the taller ones even though they were slightly quicker. Difference is due to length.

How did the tall ones do at getting around people?

This is what I’m talking about. Ignoring your child, you cannot tell me this isn’t the norm. Once in a while you’ll see one. A lot of times it fades as well particularly on a national level.

All YNT and USWNT players are unicorns with above average skills regardless of size. Some ar short some are tall but they all have uniques skills that set them apart. I’ll agree at DPL or ECNL level the taller kids win, at the international level the skilled players win.
