Absolutely. Our director told the U14 players that would be “ID’ed” well in advance. Then told the rest of the players it was out of their hands and up to US scouts at their games. Sure, if there’s an obvious standout they will get recognized but for most of the talent Ids it’s a toss up which goes to players strategicly for retention/recruiting/politics

You aren’t looking at this correctly. Let me adjust your focus. You have 2-3 players to pick from on each age group as a club. For sake of argument you have a center back, midfielder, and striker. They are not readily comparable as teammates because they play different positions. You can only compare them against their contemporaries at other regional clubs. This requires video, but as a DOC you are not paid to watch 40 hours of video each week so what do you do? You take short cuts. You listen to who everyone’s talking about at the club (ignoring that there are personal agendas shaping this) and you might come to a home game or two.

The player rankings app will help immensely here. At our own club I can feel the inertia against my kids who are top 5 players on their team. Passed over to play up in the early years, now equal/better than the two playing up, but still not getting perks like extra games in winter or invites to extra practices with the next age group up (instead others are). The trajectory of growth is undeniable for a summer birthday as is the ability to play all field positions well. Physical characteristics and work ethic point to a great future. Similarly, I literally think the simple stat of having only 1-2 goals scored against while on the field during the fall season says it all. Yet there are former coaches (with players competing in the next age group) who love to chat that still throw doubt around the club. All clubs have this dynamic so changing is worthless. You bet you ace I’ll be logging every game in the rankings app because it’s the only way to compare the best players on the same team. The fate of US soccer rests on this rankings app to overcome simple club politics and comfortable decisions to stick with old decisions.

What is ODP PDP? Is that just the ODP program or the thing that happens after regional team selection?

Good grief. Over involved parents running after coaches with statistic printouts about how their kids are being short changed is the most ridiculous thing I can think of about youth sports.

Not “just” parents but parents who think they know better. Parents who have no coaching licenses but think they know better than those that are licensed. Parents who never played the game, never watched games and have no soccer education. Parents who became experts standing on the sidelines just watching there kids game. Welcome to youth soccer!

OP here. I have a “D” license, graduate of computer science, and played through out the first 18 years of my life. I watch the top 4 leagues weekly. I know. The question is what you think you know more than I do? I’d bet money you don’t. Because you don’t see the game the same what I do. I see numbers and logic on what happens on/off the ball. You just look at what excites you (on the ball).

                You are 100% wrong.

Before the rankings app the best teams were always subjective. Now we know exactly who the best teams are.

The next phase is to start documenting player performance and accomplishments. When the rankings app clearly shows that XYZ forward is #1 in the nation in number of goals scored but for whatever reason other players are being picked for Talent ID questions will be asked.

Whatever light that can be placed on talent + earned performance is a good thing.

We need to get the jerkoff paywall coached docs and directors out of the game.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Some dad banging away on his iPad to input his kids statistics rather than enjoy the game is the saddest thing I can think of. But there are plenty that will do it.

The USYNT just released their U17 camp roster. It’s 36 kids. Every one of the kids on that list stand out significantly at the showcases. I would guess there are probably 10-15 kids who could’ve/should’ve made the roster, but the kids on it are greased lightening on the soccer field. There is zero pay-to-play on that roster.

That maybe true but they are the same fools who cannot beat the Dutch because their style of play puts winning at risk by not marking at the top of the box. They are the Michael Bradley’s of the world who don’t track back to create continuity with midfield. They are kids who disrupt the shape of their team and create dangerous counter attacks.

Teams don’t even play the ball down the side my kid is lined up on as a center back He’s the bottle for greased lightning. He’ll never get a look because of the plays he doesn’t have to make. He impacts the game without even touching the ball. Sounds crazy right? Smart by those players who know him from camps and prior games because he doesn’t just stop the attack he will literally play a dangerous pass on the counter within a heart beat. What’s that worth? I’ll tell you it shows up on the score board. But it’s the kids he plays the ball to that are celebrated. Why? Because people lack a way to evaluate and ID defenders at the first tier. Sure if they can make a camp they’ll be seen. If the DOC doesn’t want to show them, they will toil away in secrecy.

I just love soccer coaches. So uppity because they spent 2 decades kicking a ball around a field.

                          Fellas, here are some facts.

                          1. The typical "parent" spends thousands of dollars on youth soccer because they have a high paying job. Unlike you.
                          2. They earned that job because they are exceedingly educated. Unlike you.
                          3. They are so educated because they are, on average, 20-60 points higher than you on the IQ chart.
                          4. Their daily job requires analytical and problem solving skills that are orders of magnitude beyond your square peg round hole capabilities.
                          5. Yes, parents are biased. So are you. Coaches have favorites. Coaches are corrupt. Coaches fundamentally don't give a damn about kids.

So shut your mouth, clamp down on that ego, take that ball that you kicked around for 2 decades and shove it up your dumb ass, and be grateful to the parents whose money is the only thing standing between you and your next career as a fry cook.

Only 1 (or 2 if you'd like to have a backup) parents need to document play.

All you need is a form with all the items the rankings app tracks + you check off each item when they occur during the game. After the game is over add everything up + submit to the rankings app. Some elements of this already occur in Futsal if you're keeping track of the scores.

if 1 or 2 big teams start doing this. Everyone else will follow.

Dude we do this for my son’s rec basketball game with the free game changer app. It’s not hard and I can still watch the game live.

My opinion is a little nicer, but there are some excellent points here and I’m not being elitest. But have seen too much that doesn’t add up. I get it that it can be inconvenient when your favorite players fall behind, but if you spend a full season in denial. Look at the top end of the game when you have a player like Grealish sitting for a player that is playing better than them it’s a model for the type of competitive environment that we are all looking for. If the parents of young Jack Grealish are angry and want to leave the club because they have been passed by how does that put you in a better place when the other player (who is playing better) leaves out of frustration? Isn’t this the point of speech you give pre-season?
