It's based purely on state playoffs and records, not some magic sauce The CT team is a parochial school that won handily but recruits players from all over. It's been a hot topic on the CT board.
Winning states or even going deep is a great experience for players and the schools. Co grants to them. Cue the HS soccer haters .....

^ you are 100% correct. You can't compare across state lines. Some big soccer states like CA would probably crush some other highly ranked teams. Plus some parts of the country play HS in the winter, others spring. In other words it's not even a complete picture of this school year. Beauty contest is a good way to describe it.

The list seemed to get it right as Natick and Bishop Feehan are the top two teams in the state after finishing 1 - 2 in the top. conference. Whether they deserved higher than 12 and 13 is another story. Impossible to know.

It's not a real poll. You have representatives from each Region who "vote", and most of the time they are doing it unseen. They just go by records. For boys, the representative is from Topsfield, MA. For girls, they are from Northern, ME. Very, very little chance they have actually seen most of these teams play.

These rankings are only from 25 states that play fall HS soccer. It’s still a great achievement for the players on the those teams.

The bigger issues are obvious: no one had seen teams from other states play, and they never play one another. It's just a list, that's it. The celebration is being best in your state, that's all.
