    Ivy League tournament begins today

First ever Ivy League tournament begins today, for the women. Should be some pretty good soccer, with some New England teams and some players from the clubs and high schools in this area. Games on ESPN+.

Well done today in both semi final matches. Harvard beat Princeton very convincingly. And, congratulations to Columbia for beating Brown 2-1 in overtime. That’s right Columbia beat Brown. With today’s results the Ivy League should have all four teams make the NCAA tournament. The final is on Sunday.

4? Seriously? 1/2 of an 8 team league? Did any play and beat FL State, Pitt, ND, Clemson? Did any play and beat Wisconsin, Mich State. Iowa, Nebraska? Did any play and beat Stanford, USC, UCLA? Did any play and beat SCarolina, Kentucky..

You get what I mean. What justifies 4 from a over rated conference?

Clearly you have your biases against the Ivies. The NCAA selection committee make their educated determinations of colleges based on factors of winning conference tournaments and colleges RPI. Is that simple enough for you? Look at the RPI of all four Ivys.

Why the Ivies are ranked so high (no, I have no affiliation with any Ivy League school)

Anyhoo there is an RPI blog that is informative. Search on NCAA womens soccer rpi And you should be able to find it

I have a bias against teams that should not get carried in by the rest of their league. And plays less games so less negative pull. My kid plays in P5 and has been in it every year. There are other teams much better that are always looking in because of the flawed RPI system.

My niece was on the ivy team that went deep about 8 yrs ago. They knocked out UNC. It was great and well deserved. But they did not carry in other weaker ivy teams.

Nothing flawed by RPI. You play a strong schedule and win you get into the NCAA. You play in a weak conference and do not schedule out of conference games vs . Better opponents from better conferences your season is now over. That simple.

                      Ivy League RPI-#2 league
Ivy League KPI (balanced RPI)-#4 league
                      Ivy League Massey-#8 league

Reportedly will start using the KPI soon if not this year

Here is a simplified view. Yale beat UCONN, and UMASS. Dartmouth tied BC and beat Quinny and Merrimack. So the top tier of our local leagues lose to lower half of Ivy.

i get it, it’s easy to hate on Ivy, but… results move the list

What strong schedule did the Ivy league play? Did they play and beat any top team in the p5?

Playing 1 strong team or middle of league in a strong conference (and tying or loosing should not be a boost into preseason). That is gaming.
