How many times did you scream "Boot it" during your kids games?

Nope she is the COO of a multi-million dollar company at age 28. Soccer was for fun - not for an amateur "career" playing in front of 15 people on a two-bit team. You people are delusional. When some female player from MA (actually more than one..) signs a multi year contract for $1M+ I will agree that all the money you spend is worth it. Haven't seen too many of the Olympic stars pitching products on TV for that matter either. The PR bump from that lasted all of 2 weeks. This forum is full of a bunch of puffed up parents with no perspective and a puffed up sense of worth. Truly is high comedy.

Nope - she was a slightly above average player who specialized in frustrating and shutting down the big "stars" on the other teams. Then she went to college. Then she got a REAL job.

OK - you are obviously here just to rile people up, but I'll play.
#1 - players like Abby Wambach and Hope Solo get paid somewhere between 60K and 80K a year, plus they have endorsement deals. That is the level that someone like SM is trying to get to.

#2 - SM is playing for Pali Blues to get high level competition over the summer and to play alongside some of her college teammates so she (and they) will be ready for their fall college season. It is also, likely, part of her pursuit of going pro and playing for the full WNT someday. No the Pali Blues don't do great at the gate, but that isn't really the point for the players. For the players it is about high level competition. As for attendance at pro women's games, should she make the next level, there is plenty of documentation around about the various successes and failures of these endeavors. Suffice it to say that the newest version of women's pro soccer, the NWSL, has a tough road ahead of it.

#3 - That is great that your daughter is doing so well. Why are you so down on someone like SM pursuing her own dreams and path in life? Let's say she doesn't "make it" as a pro. She'll still have a degree from UCLA. Everyone knows that the vast majority of players never accomplish what SM has, and that a large percentage of those that get as far as she has gotten won't go on to become the next Mia, Kristie, Abby, Hope, etc. But why the need to crap on those who choose to chase it?

Not down on SM whatsoever but I am on the parents who feel that her playing for this team validates their own experience. If these parents spent a little more time worrying about stuff OTHER than soccer we would all be a hell of alot better off. This forum is so full of neurotic angst that it could be a textbook for how NOT to raise a child.

Awesome post! And with the education she should be getting from UCLA she will be able to supplement her salary.

Simple - the only way this poster measures success is by the dollars in his bank account. He's too narrow minded to see that other people have other metics they use measure success in life.

I admit I like to tweak the noses of the self righteous parents in here who have lost perspective on the role soccer plays in the life of 99.99% of the players. You have them acting like KM has found the golden soccer nugget. She is a fine player. One of the top 10 IMHO to come out of this area. Ok - so say she does this for what 4-5 years? Then what at age 30? Hopefully injury free and with connections that help her build a career she loves. Chances are though it won't be in soccer. People need to take their rose colored blinders off. They only post this stuff because it validates their dreams. Which probably aren't even the same as their kid's.

Poor people are always so concerned how rich people spend their money and time. Must suck to be poor. Even worse to be lazy.

Geesh! You are one pathetic human being! What's it to you anyway? You who's 28 year old daughter is a COO of a multi-million company and still visiting this site to brag about it. Maybe your kid is completely miserable and you don't even know it. I know women with degrees from some of the top colleges in the country who have decided to be stay a home mothers and are perfectly content with the decisions they have made to do so. As others have pointed out some people define success in other ways. If SM and KM are happy doing what they are doing, what's it to you? I suspect that at the end of their soccer careers they will be just as successful doing something else thanks to the lessons they have learned playing soccer.

You don't understand my post. The problem is the parents that post and then comment on their success as a self affirmation of their obsession with their kids soccer career. For most parents it is folly. Nothing more nothing less.

As for my daughter - she changed careers because she wasn't happy. She was a good soccer player but we were never under any illusions that it was anything more than a nice way to spend weekends.

No, I understand your point perfectly. What you don't get is most parents aren't as stupid as you believe and in the case of the Mewis family, soccer is alot more than just a nice way to spend weekends.

What company worth a damn hires a C level exec at 28? I call BS. Maybe a crap company, a start up or one of Daddy's buddies threw her a bone.

We don't understand your post because it is very difficult to understand. Are you saying KM and SM and similar players shouldn't have played, or shouldn't have played for top D1 teams, or shouldn't try to make the full WNT? If that's the case, are you saying we shouldn't have a WNT at all? Should no kids play any D1 sports? Yes, you're obviously trying to tweak something or someone but you picked a very odd target to make your point. Looks like you made a kneejerk, tweaking reaction kind of post and now you're doing what so many noted posters do on this site which is to continue to defend something that I was a gross mistake from the outset.
