In a desperation move to give the forward that used to score at will minutes our coach per her in defense (with no previous training). She was an absolute boss in defense + standout incredible. If we had played her in defense from the beginning, we probably would have won almost every game during the season.
Unfortunately, when her dad found out she was moved to defense they immediately quit the team + she started playing competitive volleyball.

I remember when my kid was a good forward but finishing wasn't her strongest area, she did get a lot of assists. Then there were some injuries and they shifted her to outside back more and more. Coach said her impact in the build out, in her overlaps and runs into midfield and her ability to recognize situations was better there. We didn't love that, but she said she enjoyed it and started following those players. Not a lot of 15 year old girls where we lived would have picked Phillip Lahm as one of their favorites.
The next year she was invited to her first USYNT ID event after the US scout watched her play a league game and we understood that the coach was not wrong. Not saying trust blindly, but keep an open mind.
