NWSL coming to Boston in 2026

Is that Franklin Park location going to work? It’s possible to get there on the T, if the T is working and they have enough service. But you have to think many people will want to drive.

Franklin Park might be a mistake. Its not a good commute.
Sounds like the Boston political machine pushed it there so that Boston schools get free access to an upgraded stadium facility. I wonder what, if any, concessions they offered?

What is the demographic for the proposed fanbase?
    Where do they live?
Club soccer owners looked at the map and chose locations all around but not within Boston. Not the successful clubs anyway.

Season starts March 25 and ends October 15.
I foresee many empty seats until mid-May.

So...that's 3 concerns. Any others? Anyone have answers to above?

No one is driving to Franklin Park at 8 pm on a Saturday night to see womens soccer. Its the wrong location and by no definition is it in the "heart of Boston".

Exciting. Looking forward to it. Will there be parking? Renderings of the concept stadium do not show parking.

No. There is a forest on one side and a dense city neighborhood on the other. Maybe the zoo lots and walk from there.

Did anyone look at the Boston crime map?

Its on top of Dorchester. So no shocker crime is through the roof.

I have to think it's meant to be an economic development project for Roxbury (which is where it is located). Maybe they will have some pop-up or day of game options for eating and drinking. Food trucks? Try to publish a guide to local restaurants?

There are also quite a few restaurants in nearby Jamaica Plain, though Centre St is something of a walk.

But the nearby parts of Roxbury and JP are mostly residential, not commercial.

As a person who drives to Union Point Weymouth, I wonder why a stadium is not here. There is a commuter rail that connects to good stops. Accessible by highway 128, 3, 24. And miles of parking lot. Place is begging for a soccer specific stadium.

That said, I think Franklin Park can work and I hope it works. Excited for women’s pro soccer!

Great idea. Maybe submit that to the Mayor as an ancillary location. The current project is an urban revitalization project to also allow for youth and others to use as well. It will even have a track surrounding it.

It sounds great but does not give a professional soccer feel. More like a great college field or high school feel. If the fields will be used by many non pro teams, lacrosse clubs, ultimate frisbee, flag football, and such, they will become beaten up very quickly.

so maybe the nwsl team will need to move to a soccer specific stadium in weymouth to be used by it and host ussoccer events, international pro teams, and future olympic and world cup sites.

                    Exciting times for womens sports.

I suggest everyone drive a loop around Franklin Park this Friday at 9pm.

I’m not taking my suburban 12 yr daughter to Dorchester.

no offense but Inner city girls aren’t the woman’s soccer demographic . They have more important things to spend their disposable income on.

Was hoping they’d just team up with BC. Use that stadium. Much better area and plenty of parking. But then again why doesn’t Kraft take lead on this and incorporate it into the world of Gillette like a Women’s Revs?

Kraft not doing this with all he has invested in Revs is a huge red flag. I shot of that location workin for women’s pro soccer but good for the kids from the city getting a great venue

Don't bother locking your cars at the Boston games. The windows will just bet broken. Save yourself the trouble of dropping your car off at an auto glass place.
