I’m sure there are a myriad of factors, but playing a large % of the schedule over the last two weeks of the season to make up for early season cancellations didn’t help. CFC did the same thing and their 07s and 08s got embarrassed at nationals.

That's interesting. I'm assuming that warm weather teams had a more even schedule with more rest at the end?

Yes and no. Meaning, yes there are some that are able to spread games out more since they are less likely to have a weather-impacting event to cause a game to be cancelled. However, (and this is the case every year), there are some areas of the country that flip the HS soccer playing season, and play club in the fall and HS in the spring. They then bring them back together for some quick trainings and off to events from there. They always complain they are at a disadvantage. Of course, they are at an advantage for winter events.

I wonder how aggressive some of these state high school leagues might be compared to MIAA? Are the California and Texas teams utterly forbidden from practicing with club during high school?

Rules vary state to state. Most are more like MA where the HS team is supposed to be your priority first. "Most" seem to have heavier club activity when it's the HS season. FL has HS in the winter when club tends to be very quiet. I know in nearby CT all club activity is banned during the HS season and players getting caught can cause their HS to forfeit games, even in playoffs. None of the clubs do anything at all in the fall until players have finished their HS season.

I have no issue limiting club play in season - it's way too much for kids to be playing 7 days a week (which is what it would be) and conflicts are inevitable. Exhaustion and increased injury risk is also inevitable. Both HS and club coaches can be di cks so it can put kids in a tough spot having to make tough choices.

Warm weather teams play 20-25 game schedules

If you spend that much you're doing it wrong - not planning in advance to get better rates, taking the whole family? Also the recruiting years are the most because there's more showcases. MS and senior year are better.
