    Thanks BTNT.

Couple of quick questions. Do most high end players now play on the same exact club team throughout their entire youth careers and do they only have one club coach during that tenure or do they train with multiple different teams and different coaches? Another big question is how much "faith" do you put in one coach's opinion? Are they always right and do top end players always follow their coaching regardless?
Yes, you asked the questions...and then you provided the answers as well in a timely fashion. Thanks for quoting those 2 posts back to back as that more than verified your socratic tutorial session.

No follow-ups on the these complex matters? Please, feel free to ask. This a forum after all, and it is possible to obtain some valuable information once you sift through all the muddle.

I feel great. I just wish BTDT would come back and resume posting. The site is poorer for his absence.

I asked the questions, and the last post I made was thanking the person that took the time to answer them.

I will be a reader at this point for any insight on the development of true high-end players. No stage, act or agenda here. I guess I didn't know what questions to ask on my first post.

I took an interest in KM after watching her play for the first time on Sunday. I thought she was the most talented player on the field, and the field had some other very big names in women's soccer. After the game, KM walked outside the gate, right into the crowd of fans in autograph alley, and signed autographs for more than 1/2 hour. It was nice to see for the kids that look up to her. I thought that understanding more about her past, experiences and challenges would help parents like myself navigate and carve a path out for their own daughter's development.

.. and I was the one that answered you. I took your questions at face value and tried to give you a sincere answer. Don't know who you are or what hidden agenda you may or may not have, but I don't really care. If you want to have a discussion I would urge you to ask more questions otherwise the trolls get what they want.

LOL. The old "newbie" act -- "I guess I didn't know what questions to ask on my first post" -- is a nice touch. Funny that you would stop by right at this moment. Guess who else is here right now? And why just an observer moving forward? You said you got some world-class info so with a few more questions imagine what you might get. Your kid might even be another KM, I mean Kristie Mewis. When did you start feeling familiar enough to refer to her by initials?

And lookie there. Johnny-on-the-spot. Serendipity in action.

You provided a lot of information. It made me aware that I am in this alone, but many others are as well. I have gone against the grade and have chosen a more moderate path, focusing on high quality training time. What you said hit home.

It's not that my daughter is the next KM. It's about managing her path to allow her to maximize her abilities, have fun and make the most of the time spent. It takes hard work and dedication, and quality to me is more important than quantity.

I'd consistently read and occasionally comment on a thread about high-end player development.

Any thoughts on resting players or keeping training low-impact during the summer months?

What type of off-field training can be done to limit injuries? I'm not sure if the Mewis sisters had to face any such challenges with the amount of soccer they played.

What do you think are the traits, skills, abilities that separate high end players at the various levels from ages 10-18? What is it that makes a young player special? I would imagine KM had certain traits all the way back to her youth development.

My own assessment was that KM's play definitely got better as the game went on, but that she still was seen to make a number of unforced errors, especially in the early going. She was not alone in this as a good number of players on both sides were not consistently sharp, particularly in the first half with lots of errant passes, heavy touches and poorly weighted balls from both sides.

KM's second goal was certainly impressive, both for how she was able to take a long, lofted ball from HAO very smartly down at her feet, quickly finding a bit of space to her left, as well as for the quality of the strike. She also made a couple nice crosses and switches of field in the match -- with field vision certainly being one of her strengths. I'll agree her fitness also seemed very good.

So while there were some good moments, the overall quality of play, particularly where it came to anything you would call possession-oriented, was not that high. Might explain something about why Breakers are in the league cellar?

BTDT, you are just too much. I know you try to think through these presentations but not enough unfortunately. A person in the scenario you describe, already as knee-deep and on an allegedly individualized "path" already, doesn't come to TS seeking answers. They have direct associations and real professionals to present those questions to. We DO see these kinds of scenarios and questions presented when someone wants the audience at large to hear and be swayed by certain things. But, go ahead, and we'll look forward to your answers. And of course there are the hours that go by when someone asks your parent-in-need a question, but then you are back and forth with each other within seconds.

"...made me aware I am in this alone.." Gee, where have we heard that lament before??? Is it like a Kierkegaardian aloneness? Or more like a prisoner of war thing?
