Why are you surprised? 99% of the club parents on the sidelines had never played the game, never watched the game and have minimal understanding of soccer. They have no understanding of soccer other than watching their daughters team. No understanding about the skill level required to succeed.

Yes 100% to this. AND again... why do people worry about who is considered the hero or who gets talked about on the paper? Is the kid having fun? Is the kid developing their love for the game? Then f*ck the rest.

When you say “some people” who are you referring to? College coaches know exactly the type of player they are looking for in every position. College coaches look for defensive mids that have a high soccer IQ along with the characteristic they want for the position.

Well, two points:

1) I never said "some people". I won't be putting mammal-specific designations without direct knowledge of how they identify.
2) I was referring to the poster would couldn't wait to tell us about their P5 discussions that they tried to shoehorn into the discussion.

Having a great CDM is absolutely transformative. Every single player benefits when you are winning the ball more and then distributing in all directions. Having no one who can do it is a guarantee the team will struggle.

not naming clubs or locations, but my son played a team last weekend with a very good CDM. Most balls from the back went through him (and most of our GK's punts and outlets seemed to all go to him.) Not the fastest kid out there, but managed the transitions so well, so efficiently and so often. (Our team does not have this.) Every time he was on the ball, 4 or 5 others sprinted to space or down wings. Over and over. They just knew the ball was likely coming to one of their feet - and it usually did. Deadly shot from distance too.

He sat for 10 mins and we scored our 2 goals in that span. Don't know the kids name, no one really cheered for him despite a couple of nice hockey assists, but that coach knows what he has for sure. I hope! (I played and that kid probably never get MoTM, but darn if he doesn't get it for others probably often.)

You claim you know the game, but you just showed you know nothing about coaching, motivation and team dynamics.
