My kids like playing rec when they were little too that doesn’t mean it wasn’t rec.

    HS soccer is utter trash.
No one is putting a gun to your kid's head to play. Pretty sure you've done everything you can to discourage it anyway. You do you. Let others make their own choices. One of mined skipped it. My other two didn't/aren't. I get it. It isn't for everyone.

And I agree with above, however, - some club soccer is trash. I see lots of "club" players that don't even start in HS. Please explain how another 2.5 months of club training is going to vastly improve their game?

My kid is fine. Played HS and mostly had fun but she still thinks it is trash.

        That’s hardly trash.
And which middle school team is that?

MIAA Bona Fide Player rule applies to all sports and it is a great rule that is greatly needed. 100% Bright Line. No Grey area.

Don’t think about only your situation where it seems perfectly reasonable for Lil Precious to miss one practice or game. Play it out along its’ logical progression based on what you know of suburban parents. As they see that The Good players are allowed to practice with “their” coach at that venue (with all the other stars) it will degrade quickly. Consider Tennis, Track, x-country, and every team sport with “elite” clubs. Hockey, Lax, B-ball, baseball pitchers…. It would become a sh$@show of pompous players and parents showing up just for the glory moments and walking off with AMG logos on their backpacks.

Simply not fair nor reasonable to expect parents will accept the judgement of a HS coach nor AD who approves Player A and B but not their kid. “Ohh the injustice!!”

And for the record there is a process to apply for an exception thru the HS principal to MIAA, and the language is something to the effect of “Not generally available to other athletes”. McDonalds HS All-American games, Olympic trials and, YNT call ups are examples of things that get approved. Showcases… NO.

Agree with above. It’s not horrible. My D ran track and served her suspension (25% of league meets) after going to winter soccer showcase.

Seems odd that HS are intent, and based on the post above, happy to hold kids back from their future.

Does the robotics team have the same rules if a kid is sent to NASA?

Oh please no one is "holding kids back." First of all if you don't want to play HS for whatever reason you just don't. Second of all, the vast majority of HS players aren't club players of any kind. The schools have a different set of priorities than a club does and that is to benefit as many kids as possible woth sports. Of the few club players that are on a typical team, some are not on a college track of any kind. Of the ones that are, they are typically mid to low level D1 and D3 track. Playing or not playing doesn't impact their track. They're not going to miraculously turn unto a top level player with 2.5 more months of club. The area rarely has a top national level player, and again they can forge their own paths.

The rule is a good rule to avoid physical and emotional burnout. Both club and HS coaches would be pressuring kids to be at their practices and games. This way it's clear cut what the rule is and the priorities are.

And did you really compare a science track to athletics?. Smdh.

Sure they are. If you happen to be a kid who wants to pay beyond HS, the sad reality is HS rules are set for the benefit of HS only. So, yes, as a player with those ambitions, you are missing opportunities to play in front of colleges, which are difficult to come by.

Sounds like it wouldn't be a big deal for a kid to miss something then since the vast majority aren't really involved anyway.

Just not the ones with aspirations to play beyond HS. As mentioned above, for the few that are on there doesn't seem like a big deal then, does it? OK for a kid to miss for virtually any other reason, just not to do something that is within the same sport. That doesn't strike you as odd?

                    Huh?

It's OK if you don't understand how higher level players and programs work. That doesn't make you a bad person, just one who needs to be educated. That's OK, it's a big world out there and nobody knows everything. Your arguments are all over the place.

And, yes, a scholarship is a scholarship. Speaking from one of experience, my kid didn't play HS for two years since she wanted to concentrate on her college track. Did her last two, was wildly successful on the pitch but there were a lot of problems over this off it. The schools tried their best to accommodate it as they understand there are special circumstances and no player is treated the same. Unfortunately, the state is archaic in their thinking and the school's hands were tied. In the end, some backroom handshakes were made, recruiting was successful, team, player and coach were all glad it worked out despite of draconian laws, not because of them.

Except the school is an organization that is supposed to be dedicated to see kids reach their potential and for those who wish to attend college to play a role in achieving that success. If the school can't put a product on the field or offer any service to help kids in sports beyond football to get recruited into college then they should not put obstacles in the way of players who have found a pathway.

It is obnoxious on its own face that schools will not feature club players who did not play school soccer in their own NIL ceremony. Kids who are graduating in the school are overlooked because the school puts a barrier in the way of a student to get recruited and then fails to celebrate their achievement because they could not have accomplished it with the school rules.
