    D1 New Transfer Rules

    1. Can a walk on enter the transfer portal after the new May 1-15th deadline(and before the next window after fall season)? I have read there are exceptions for players with coaching changes and grad students but what about undergrads receiving no scholarship money but need/want to wait until after May 15th?
    2. Is the ONLY way to transfer (D1-D1) through the portal with its tiny windows to enter?

Can't answer the first, and not sure I am right on the second, but I believe you can transfer any time, but you have to sit for a year. Or possibly OK to go down a division?

If there's no scholarship $ it seems like your player overshot their target and likely didn't play much. They need to target below where they're at now to have a shot at transferring.

Good question. Don’t know the answer. Seems like players might want to transfer outside of the two portal openings for a variety of reasons. A friends player quit and wasn’t going to play anymore but then changed their mind and I think entered the transfer portal last month?

Maybe a player who is no longer on the team can enter the portal whenever they like or can just contact coaches directly if they are no longer on the team? Like what happens if the coach cuts a player outside the transfer window? Are they just left with zero way to transfer? That Doesn’t seem fair but the rules linked above don’t specify this situation.

This is what I do know.
          1. Any D1 rostered player has to enter the portal BEFORE they can talk to any other coach. (Full or No Scholarship)
          2. Entering the portal must first be started by the Athletics dept at current school. Student can't start on their own

So based on above, a rostered walk-on at a D1 program would be subject to same restrictions.
What I don't know is if the player were dropped from the team
