Should current club players attend ID clinics for national league/higher level teams or are they geared towards outside players? Do players receive offers after these clinics or after try outs? (Only our first year playing for a club, and my kid is interested in playing on a national league team)

Just ask your club. Ours usually invites both the B team (but not C) plus outside players and strong players from other branches. Reach out to the director and just say your D wants to be considered for the national league team and how should she proceed. -
The club should have a policy around that. Some clubs want their current players attend, others don't. Some ask a few of the current players to attend to even out numbers for scrimmaging depending on how many outside kids attend. You should ask your club what the expectation is.Comment

The reality of it (from what I understand), is that the "ID Clinics" are not the best way to get to a ECNL, ECRL, or GA level of team. Typically coaches would rather see the kids at a practice so they get a much better view of how they interact with the teams. ID clinics tend to have high disparity of talent, so it is hard to judge. Also many of the "spots" are already accounted for by the time the ID clinics come around through people they are pulling up or have already had at practice. My advice is that if your kid is already at the club ask your coach if they could practice with the higher level. They may tell you something that you don't want to hear, but that is the best way. I did this and for one kid was told "no they are not ready", but I still had her go to the ID clinic so she got a shot (answer was no). Another kid practiced with the higher level club and then was pulled up. Hope this helps.Comment

Its not hard to judge if you look. You know what all of your current player can do. Of the new players, it is pretty quick and easy to see which players have anything. Invite them to additional trainings and get them playing with and against your current players to see where they fit it. The biggest impediment to tryouts is having evaluators who are willing to make changes; many are not.Originally posted by Guest View PostComment

That last part is critical. Its pathetically funny when a kid shows up and is clearly top 12, but the coach pulls some lame excuse to try to protect the favorite/politics/money kids. Especially when said coach knows he isn't coaching the team the following year, so doesn't give a damn. No the biggest impediment to ‘tryouts’ is time. Tryouts are often right at the end of the season and there are not as many practices to get to. You need to get your kid to a practice before tryouts, early in the season. Now, if you haven’t already.Originally posted by Guest View PostComment
