Way to go Francis! Funny thing is that he probably made his team run laps after the game for the mistakes that were made during the game. Sure, I'll pay money so my child can be coached under a blanket of fear! Great sportsmanship by the Blazers.

A good coach can do so many things that prevent that from happening, even taking sportsmanship out of the equation. What's the point of crushing a team like that? Are any of the players being challenged? That's when you discreetly take a player off. If one isn't enough, take two.

Some items are so outrageous that they are worth repeating. I was watching a game where another team was blowing out another team and they continued to score.

A player from the other team took out one of the better players from the team that was winning. It was dirty and uncalled for and the player was totally in the wrong. He was sent off but he didn't seem to care.

As he was walking off the field he walked by the coach and told the coach "that one was for you".

22-0. Sorry, but if you try to defend this in the past or in the future you have no clue.

Setting aside the issue of FO allowing his team to run all over Melrose United, they clearly shouldn't be competing in MAPLE. A quick look at MAPLE's site shows that Melrose United has two teams. The U12 team went 0-6 and never made up two postponed matches. Their goals for - 0; their goals against - 56 (that's with the Blazers game included - it doesn't appear in the official standings as they drew the Blazers game as their match outside their division). Their U13 team was decidedly better going 1-8. They scored 7 goals and gave up 34.

Now, I'm not saying that kids shouldn't be allowed to play, but these teams and this "club" are clearly out of their league. But then again, I guess that's what relegation is for.

This broadly introduces the issue of placement. Another topic that's been covered. In MAPLE especially, it needs to improve, with SO many teams that are really levels of 3rd, 4th, 5th and so on caliber.

Why set aside the issue of FO? Is he a positive influence on the local soccer community? I have witnessed him pull a 13-year-old player off the field and berate him with multiple f-bombs when his team was winning. I am sure he has many defenders among the parents of his players, but would you truly ever let anyone else treat your child that way? How do you convince a child that he should not take this criticism of his effort/character/whatever to heart? Success in soccer will be pointless if your child's self-esteem is gravely damaged in the process.

FO needs a few courses in child psychology, anger management, impulse control, and diplomacy before he is allowed near a group of children.

Its not really their fault, in general. They will never get into NEP where all the good teams are so who/where are they supposed to play for regular league play? MAPLE, MASC, no go options for that club.

All the good U12 teams play in NEP? NEP teams play 8v8!

Huh? Not whose fault? Or was this any post just to make the endorsement of NEP?

There's no excuse for the score run up and there is no excuse for not having better placement. My god town leagues have better divisional placement than MAPLE.

Saw the same thing happen (even worse) at a u13 futsal game in mansfield last weekend

Futsal and Maple outdoor are two totally different circumstances. It is very hard in the winter to play in a league that has parity, especially at elite levels. It is usual to have very good premier teams playing in the same league as rec teams. Add in that with futsal you are playing on a smaller court with less kids and it becomes very difficult to minimize the blowout unless you instruct the kids not to score.

A few years ago I had a situation where we were blowing out a team and at half I suggested to the other coach that we combine the kids, split them up and scrimmage. The coach agreed, but you never know how someone will take that. For me, I just wanted some level of competition for the kids.

First of all, these 2 teams are from different divisions. Based on the fact there were not many teams in the Melrose team's bracket, games were scheduled with teams outside of that bracket. Why would MAPLE even think of scheduling a higher division team to play with a lower division team? If they need to fill up the number of games, teams in the same division can play each other twice. I believe there was a very good reason why teams were broken out into different divisions to start..............
