Can you say Stupid! The whole thing is rigged. That is why "certain" teams have the tournaments and place "certain" teams in the same brackets ... thus the point saga... so rigged!!!

while GS points do help tournaments with bracket placement, GS NEEDS to fix it's own calculations. Anyone who has been involved with GS over the years knows that they routinely screw up the points awards (wrong teams), do not answer questions, etc..
Mathman should have gone national with his...

I try not to read to much into the gotsoccer points. My daughters team played in the MPS tournament as well, they won their braket and now have over 200 points less than before the tournament. Go figure.

Think the whole idea of got soccer points can be sort of fun if not taken as meaning to much ( other then being able to look up which teams succeeded in a tournament and the scores if that interests you)- beyond that , think that some patents who take it too seriously are a little disconnected from reality-- if a team goes to a lot if tournaments an wins some they get points, that doesn't mean the team is better and more skilled then the rest of the zillion travel teams in the countrythat simply didn't attend that tournament!!! All the teams not attending get 0 points , that doesn't mean that all the non attending teams are worse then your little messi or Mia's local club team! Seriously what are you all thinking? Will say that there may be Some value to winning a marqueinvitational tournament or even being invited to one ( ie Dallas cup or whatever), but honestly, your kids u11 team winning the local MA tournament and getting "points" doesn't mean much, come on now.

well, you have to admit though. You don't get points for going to tournaments and losing, right?

On average it's a good gage of the teams. Not all the time, but from what I have seen the rankings have been a good measure of the team you are facing. You are able to view the teams history of other teams they faced. just one average the team with the most points tends to be better just by the simple fact they are playing in loads of tournaments and playing good teams. Yes there are plenty of good teams out there that don't go to many or any tournaments. I rather like GotSoccer and the points, but you have to just take it for what its worth.

As most reasonable people acknowledge, gotsoccer isn't perfect, but no ranking is. One thing about it is that by playing more, a team has more chances to get points, hence can be ranked higher than another team purely by playing more, not better. That said, it's not a serious drawback, because it's fair to say that the better teams do play more. A second weakness is that gotsoccer does not capture all of a team's results. Some events are not reported. Still, that weakness is much less now than even 3 years ago. So, use it as a general indicator, look past just the ranking to see what opposition a team has played, and it's informative. If it wasn't, it would not have the following it has.
