Because aid would be need based, athletes from poor families would still get help paying for college. It would be children from affluent backgrounds who wouldn't recieve a subsidy. Remarkably, given Byers' stature, his proposal was summarily ignored."

"In a 2006 letter to Congress justifying the NCAA's tax exempt status, Myles Brand (4th president of the NCAA from 2002-2009) went out of his way to mention that $1.5 billion in athletic scholarships that get doled out annually helps "many low income students who would otherwise have to forgo the college experience". But a decade earlier a survey by the U.S. Department of Education debunked the notion of college sports as a tool of broad social uplift. Tracking students from 8th grade through college, it found that children with a high socioeconomic status (those in the top 25% on a measure that considers their parents' occupations, education, and income) were 10 times as likely to play Division 1 sports as those with low socioeconomic status (those in the bottom 25%). Even among elite high school athlete - defined as those who were MVPs or captains on their team - only 4% of kids from disadvantaged backgrounds went on to play at the D1 level."
Interesting but meaningless unless you tell us what the percentages were for the other groups. Only 4% of elite kids from disadvantaged background go on to play d1. Ok, what percent of elites from non-disadvanteaged go on to play d1. What is the percent of kids from disadvantaged backgrounds going to college non-athletes vs athletes.

That's just a bizarre response. You call it meaningless for lack of context and cite what was a supportive statistic initially offered for context. I mean, you did read what the OP wrote about a DOE study and the 10-to-1 disparity between the highest and lowest economic quartiles when it comes to scholarships, right?

I'm hoping for another 44. I'm even thinking of getting a "Binky to Kinky" tattoo. This has been the most fun I've had in years!

The word frankfurter comes from Frankfurt, Germany, where pork sausages served in a bun similar to hot dogs originated.[1] These sausages, Frankfurter Würstchen, were known since the 13th century and given to the people on the event of imperial coronations, starting with the coronation of Maximilian II, Holy Roman Emperor as King. (Wiki)...beans were first cultivated in Thailand well before ...however, in the context of "beans and franks" one would have the say the Frank came first...thank you for playing
