She better be hoping she is allowed to return next year. The notion that she could be permitted to play in the next game is preposterous.
Just another glorious chapter in the BC athletics book. Add it to the point shaving scandal in the late 70's, the Jay Murphy matriculation in the 80's and the football gambling scandal in the 90's

But, we shouldn't be surprised, the catholic church has been looking the other way for years as priests and nuns have been running rampant, abusing children on a daily basis and I'm sure at this moment. Also, in reading one of her disgusting tweets I also noticed that lovely Stephanie cannot spell, someone please tell her that it's 'we'll', not 'well'. Obviously, BC admissions looked the other way when it came to her grades and I'm sure her SAT's. Shame on you, your daughter, Stephanie and BC, all of you should both be ashamed.
I don't have any real opinion on the tweets or the suspension. That is up to BC.

What I do find ironic is that you go after the student athlete for her inability to spell, and yet your last sentence reads like it was written by a 3 year old.

Sorry bud, but "all of you should both be ashamed"......really?

How in the hell did a discussion of a stupid 19yr old BC student tweeting foolishness and getting suspended for the NCAA tourney turn into an argument about Benghazi...you lost...get over it!

I'm surprised it took so long to call out the poor syntax within her tweets.

Someone that either doesn't have adolescent children or has ever spent a few minutes on twitter.

Whether intentional or lazy, butchering grammar and spelling is a right of passage in our society at this point. If you don't double, triple or quadruple your letters your ('re are for nerds) soooo notttt coooool.

Make no mistake, it's just another cultural slop that tilts and slips one way and never goes back.

I, for one, will be using this as another example for my 12 year old as to why social media needs to be used with EXTREME caution (I include texting in my talks with her...). The list is growing for the examples that I have been able to give her for reasons why FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc. can be a source of much grief.

My friend's 17 year old son was kicked off his hockey team for having a picture taken at a party where there was a beer in the background of the picture. He didn't have it in his hand, no evidence of his drinking (although he probably was...) and someone put a picture up on FB that was discovered. And poof! Hockey season done.

To me, this is an example of a young person doing something extremely stupid and clearly showing a lack of judgement... However, to make judgements on her character, etc... is ridiculous. A very tough lesson for her to learn.

This is undoubtedly a very unfortunate situation. I don't know the player in question but can only imagine that she is mortified at her tweeting. I am curious as to how it went public. Not that this is the point but it makes me wonder. At the end of the day her decision was short-sighted, her parents must be embarrassed, she is being punished, she will forever be known as the BC tweet player.

Take the time to remind your kids that their online activity should be above board, protected, and never completely private. If someone wants to share your tweets or facebook posts or TS rants, they will.

May the wounds and wounded at PSU heal.

If you read the many X-rated comments from the girls from Stars and Scorps from a couple of years ago, this really should not shock anyone. Throws-ins to the face, twitter "jokes" about pedophiles, etc. These are not isolated incidents, it is the culture of girls soccer.

Tweeting insults of this nature about the opponent you are about to play is horrible judgment at best. I don't there was any intent to "speak out" out child sexual abuse here. And yes, I am sure there is not a D1 school in the country that does not review guidelines for social media for student-athletes.

The only semi-cogent argument made on this thread is the idea that she undersestimated the reach of her tweets. That is possible and I'm sure she did not expect the firestorm that ensued. That said, she should know just from seeing what happens to the tweets of professional athletes and other high profile persons (Donald Trump and others just a week or so ago).

Those of you bringing in Benghazi and somehow using this to take another jab at Obama are truly lowly creatures. And people insist it isn't racist. States petitioning to secede from the Union. Redneck musicians threatening to kill. Celebrities talking about the "worst scam ever perpretrated against the American people." Accusations of being a dangerous terrorist Muslim. All that for just being a center left President? Right. Imagine how easily he would have won if he wasn't facing raw, primitive, white redneck racism every single day. I'm surprised he isn't being blamed for the Needham PK. Oh, that's right, he was for Somerville because they have minorities who also don't have birth certificates.
Another example of how the hysterical left take things to the extreme.

Couldn't let this one go. Comparing a ball in the face to multiple rapes of multiple minors is crap, and you know it. Also, the Amherst player served a two-game suspension, so doesn't that trump the BC one-game suspension?
I don't think Bacon was even addressing the actual rapes, but the school's handling of those rapes. This seems to be what got her in trouble. Don't mock Penn State and think you'll get away with it. Frankly, I have no problem with Penn State being mocked for the dispicable handling of what happened there.

It went public because she has a public twitter account followed by (is presume) many people.

This wasn't a private account, this was a public account meant to be read by all.

I'm sure she is mortified that she is not playing, I doubt she is mortified by the tweets.

Yes, and as girls become women, going from Stars to College to WMT (Hope, anyone?) to Coaching, they will find they will need to mature (except for Hope) and understand that they are becoming a public figure with more responsibilities/accountabilities. Interesting to consider all that were following were tweets. Key is what happened to their role model and what do they learn from it? Part of the maturing process.

And you were right there to jump in when someone brings in Benghazi to a discussion of a 19 year old soccer player tweeting insults about PSU. "Fair and balanced," right?
