Personally, I think it is a bunch of nonsense. Tell her to take the Tweets down and don't do it again. Suspension is over the top punishment for what she did.

This situation prompts me to think of the MIAA Captains & Coaches Leadership Conference that I attended in August with maybe 75, give or take, coaches and incredibly impressive student athletes. All I could think at the time as I was so impressed with the discussions and presentations throughout the day was how come there wasn't 10 times as many kids attending, listening and participating.
Make no mistake, the specifics relating to Penn State are unique here, but the broad issues relating to conduct, choices and of course the social media dynamic is a problem getting worse, not better. My take is that the scenarios and opportunities to make bad choices are more plentiful (social media being part of that equation). Where a bad decision may have been made in private or contained, today is public and promoted in an instant.
I hope other coaches at all levels take heed from this. Maybe some good can come out of it.

BTW, I'm no BC fan, but good job AD. Handled this better so far than Amherst or Penn State did.

Did you really just compare this to the problems at Penn State or Amherst????

Amazing how stars players transfer, fight, get in trouble and so forth so on...

The solution is not to sweep it under the rug and never talk about it. You can't just forget that this happened even though Sandusky is in jail until dead of natural causes or is hung by a prison mate. What is it that you are specifically angry about the tweets? If they are bad then the student can be verbally disciplined the first time. If so and this was a second offense then punish her more. Unless, there was some pre season rules of conduct against this, then why punish the student harshly now? Is somewhat upset because of the embarrassment that Penn St might suffer for insults and jokes made about the university? As juvenile as they might be, sweeping this topic under the rug and making it Taboo to discuss it is not the answer. In fact, this solution is what allowed it to go on for more than a decade.
The only semi-cogent argument made on this thread is the idea that she undersestimated the reach of her tweets. That is possible and I'm sure she did not expect the firestorm that ensued. That said, she should know just from seeing what happens to the tweets of professional athletes and other high profile persons (Donald Trump and others just a week or so ago).
Those of you bringing in Benghazi and somehow using this to take another jab at Obama are truly lowly creatures. And people insist it isn't racist. States petitioning to secede from the Union. Redneck musicians threatening to kill. Celebrities talking about the "worst scam ever perpretrated against the American people." Accusations of being a dangerous terrorist Muslim. All that for just being a center left President? Right. Imagine how easily he would have won if he wasn't facing raw, primitive, white redneck racism every single day. I'm surprised he isn't being blamed for the Needham PK. Oh, that's right, he was for Somerville because they have minorities who also don't have birth certificates.
