Knights v. Blazers report
I was at the Knights/Blazers game, which was one of the more exciting games I've ever seen for all the drama, lead switches, late action, etc. Blazers are significantly bigger and the refs were uninterested in calling more than the most egregious collisions as fouls (and even some of those went uncalled, particularly late, both ways once the Knights realized they weren't going to get any calls)
Knights went up 1-0 in the first half on a cross from the right to an open winger in the middle of the box who controlled a high bounce and finished in the corner.
Knights went up 2-0 early in the second half on a very nice turn out of traffic at the top left corner of the box by the same winger, turned onto his left foot and put it in the top left corner.
Stayed that way until :15 left, with Blazers pushing forward and Knights looking pretty tired and not able to break out.
Blazers scored on a cross to what looked like an unmarked man to make it 2-1 with :15 minutes left.
Blazers scored with :10 left to make it 2-2, I didn't see the goal.
With :04 left, Blazers had a goal waved off for offsides, but Knights didn't get the free kick very clear and Blazers scored on a scramble after a corner.
Knights sent everyone forward and won a free kick about 40 yards out on the right side with about :02 left, ball came in in front of the keeper on the right side of the goal - a Knights defender headed it across goal and it was finished from a scramble on the left side of the 6 yard box.
In the first overtime period (2 :15 minute periods, no Golden Goal), Knights scored :10 in on a cross from the left that was volleyed very sharply by the right wing and went bar down.
Knights missed high on an open breakaway with about :10 left in the second overtime.
Blazers tied it with :04 left in the second overtime on a long ball into a collision between a group of folks.
PKs.
Knights scored - high right side.
Blazers missed the net - high right.
Knights scored - high left side.
Blazers scored - low left.
Knights scored - right side netting.
Blazers scored - left side.
Knights scored - high left side.
Blazers missed the net - high right.
Knights cheered.

BU17 final game report
Much more tightly reffed game in the final than in the Knights/Blazers semi, with better control of the game by the man in the middle.
Crusaders scored early off of a breakout after a Knights free kick deep to the right side of the box. Knights laid it back for a shot, but the shot was blocked, and #3 (fastest wing I've seen this season, with excellent touch and a penchant for running over the back of his defender (4 fouls for it in the game)) took off up the field with support, played it to the support, got it back and finished easily.
Knights had most of the chances in the rest of the half with a couple of open shots put into the keeper or over the net.
Second half, Knights had the wind, but couldn't score. Hit 2 or 3 posts and had several shots go just wide. Crusaders #3 was dangerous and they generated a few other 1/2 chances including a 40 yard shot that almost dipped under, but ultimately hit, the crossbar. Knights pushed forward and finally scored with less than a minute remaining in regulation. #24 with his third goal of the weekend.
About five minutes into the first OT period, going against the wind, the Knights scored on a nice cross from the right wing to #24 for his 4th goal of the weekend and then the Knights held on for the victory with a few heart stopping minutes toward the end as the Crusaders pushed forward.
Knights repeat as state champs.

Knights had one of those games where they couldn't put shots on net. Can't recall a single big save by CU keeper. Bar-down shot by knights may have crossed line, then bounce out, but AR wasn't in position to see, and nothing given. Give CU credit, they nearly made that one counterattack hold up, and that's a year after being punished in semis by the same opponent. Has MPS ever had a repeat state cup champion for boys?
