Because the '09 top bracket is weak, and they would get crushed in the '10 top bracket. would be a bad look to have an ECNL team play in the second bracket of the '10s

This is actually annoying. It’s a showcase. Kids want to contact coaches. Get it together NEFC

Weird question- is it commonplace for teams to sneak in older players into younger teams at these events?

Happens all the time along with players playing down to "help out" other teams in the club.

The lowest bracket was u13. There were plenty of games where younger teams chose to play up, and 2010s were perfectly allowed to join those teams because of the bracket.

It is normal for 2009's to also play in the u13 bracket? There is no issue with younger teams playing up but are older kids allowed to play down? I would assume not but maybe there are special rules in this tournament.

I'm pretty sure that is not allowed as there are older brackets for those kids. It's pretty simple - if that happened its called cheating.

Yep. Especially the keepers. Look at NEFC 2011 red, Stars 2011 blue the list goes on and on. They use the excuse they are playing up in age, but even then sometimes they have keepers 2 years older. Keepers hard to find so most look the other way.

This weekend it happened with both a field player and goalie. Didn't really matter as they still lost multiple games and had a negative goal differential. That being said, not sure why cheating is considered OK....
