    Valeo

Can anyone tell me what the deal is with Valeo? I was at Columbus Day tournament and they had many teams there. The one common denominator was the behavior of their coaches. Every single one of them was yelling at the refs, the opposing coaches, berating their own players etc... I saw their coaches get yellow and red cards for their actions.

Why on earth would any parent put up with this?

You watched every single one of them? Every game? Why weren't you enjoying watching your children?

The club has lost its identity and is a mess.

There was lots of downtime between games. We played Valeo and also had Valeo on abutting fields. Ww got a front row seat to one of their coaches call the ref lazy and fat and getting sent off. Classy.

This is consistent with what we’ve seen recently. Some of their coaches were behaving terribly. I hope the club puts and end to it. No class whatsoever.

Overall there has been a lot of turnover and their quality has declined significantly. They used to be competitive but now they’re a 2nd tier club.

An old thread, but maybe someone can add some flavor? I'm kind of fascinated with Valeo too. They have a facility (OK, maybe not the best facility) and is one of the clubs recently given the full MLS Next pathway. But do any of their teams do well? It's hard to tell with the MLS website out of service. Looking at last year's rankings, maybe only the 2009 group has a decent team? I looked up their NAL teams and the only one that is playing (only U13 has a fall season in NAL) is dead last, 0-5-0 and has a GD of -29 after 5 games with only 3 goals in the league all fall. What's the story over there. My kids team hasn't played them in a few years, but when we did they were awful and their coach (now gone I think) screamed at them the entire time (for being awful).

They don’t have MLS at U17 and U19 due to performance

Their NAL teams are bottom of the table.

They need a merger/acquisition desperately, Scorpions, NE Surf, Seacoast MA

Surf’s EDP program and Seacoast Mass NAL program would beat their MLS teams 9 out of 10 times in aggregate

We’ve noticed the decline in quality too. What happened? Did a lot of coaches and players leave?

Yeah, that's really my question. What happened to them and what caused it?

Merger would be interesting. Makes sense for Surf and Scorpions if it gave them MLS. They both already have decent girls programs. Not sure Seacoast makes sense. They already have an MLS team in NH. I'm not sure what Valeo offers other than MLS and the facility in Newton. So other than giving Seacoast a facility in Metrowest, there wouldn't seem to be much value in acquiring Valeo.

They don't need to be acquired, or merged. They need to fizzle into obscurity like they're currently doing. Sometimes you just need to let things naturally run their course, won't be the first club and certainly won't be the last.

Need? I think you're missing the point. It has nothing to do with what they or any other club "needs". If there's value in them for another club and the price is worth it to that club, then it would make sense for the other club to acquire them. Pretty simple. Valeo assets that may be of value to another club include the full MLS Next pathway on the boys side and their own facility in Newton, which is in a good location close to the highway and very accessible from a lot of communities(whether they own it or have a long term lease I don't know). Or maybe Valeo has deeper pockets and they see value in acquiring another club that would add some depth to their rosters and talent and help restore some of their lost luster.

Still searching for the background as to why they seem to have fallen off the map. Does anyone have the story? Or at least a working theory. Pandemic stuff? Surf and Juventus pulled away their coaches and players when they started up? Yes, clubs ebb and flow and come and go but there's usually a reason for that.
