No more insane than the other folks on this site.

While true, most cheerleaders spend as much time doing that activity as soccer players. It's not easy, and there's a lot of injuries (concussions, ACL's being the most noticeable). That's one activity I would steer my kid away from.

Run XC. Or don’t do a fall sport, pick up an extracurricular. Use the time to do some community service that interests your child. If mine decides not to play HS soccer again, she will train on her own and do one of the above.

I don’t want to get into why it’s been a nightmare as it’s personal but I’ll just say that I never really understood why people said HS sports are political until my own played soccer. My older child played a different sport and it wasn’t political at all but I think that coach just wasn’t interested in BS. He was there to win. Our soccer coach seems to be there to make friends with certain parents, keep certain kids in the spotlight, etc. Winning is barely on her radar. I know ymmv based on school and sport but that’s been our experience for the last 2 years.

I really wish there was a program that ran for 10 months a year. Play through fall, small break in the winter, play again through spring with another break in summer. We could avoid this nonsense and let those who just want to compete against like-minded players would have that outlet to do so. It would raise their own abilities, and would raise the game overall.

            Oh, wait................

cross country. All soccer players should be able to run and have endurance. They’d probably be pretty good.
