I was a high school and D1 college athlete.

There weren't any club sports when I was growing up.

Sports have evolved in the 50 years since.

Romanticizing high school soccer is cute.

I don't hear many real life parents romanticize it. I hear most parents letting their kids decide what they want to do. MLS and D1 is romanticized plenty also. All have pros and cons

MLS Next and D1 are at the top of the pyramid. I don't think they are "romanticized." They are definitely celebrated much more.

Let's not forget about the other pathway some kids are on. While a slim chance overall, going pro is the goal for many. And being in MLSN, especially with a pro club, maximizes those chances. Pro clubs create a better (no, not perfect) environment for development and it gets the players in a good relationship with a club looking to create homegrown talent. And if it doesn't work out, and they'll know soon enough, the player has set themselves up for success for college recruiting since they are in the top league for boys program scouting.

There are local young homegrown signings that are being paid enough to fund undergrad through a doctorate.

If you are on TS and reading this post your soccer goal for your child goes well beyond cracking the starting lineup on some high school team. I am honestly curious. What are the benefits of playing for your high school?

Not many for higher level players. Some might like the feel of being a big fish in a small pond. I think some families have transportation issues (let’s get real - the driving is a huge commitment and just not possible for everyone). And some may do it to be with their friends.

Bayside pre-season tournament brackets are out. https://system.gotsport.com/org_even...showall=groups

Last year it was pretty much all of the areas younger MLS teams, now just NEFC and IFA. I don't even see Bayside participating. Where's everyone playing pre-season?

Schedules are out (dates of matches at least). It will probably take another week or two to start seeing times as fields get booked.

So after this weekend Nefc and Ifa played each other twice. They each won one game with Ifa winning the final 3-2. Nefc looked really strong in the midfield. They were able to hold possession in the first game really well. Ifa played a sloppy first game loosing 2-1. The second game they played much better and we’re able to control the game and go on to win 3-2. Ifa front 3 looked pretty good, making up a big fast attacking front line. I believe Bolts went to NJ to play a tournament down there, does anyone know how there games went?

I am almost afraid to ask what age you are talking about.

You specifically clicked on a thread titled "MLS Next" to say this?

I would say this is basically getting the exact same result that one would hope for playing in a pay to play MLSN club. It sort of undermines the concept that you need to be in MLSN to make it onto a real academy team.
