    Why GotSoccer rankings are useless

Not news, but to make it crystal clear a current example shows why GotSoccer rankings are useless. The "rankings" are just a measure of how many tournaments a club does and how good they are at choosing the bracket they enter. None of this promotes team or player development.

Two Mass clubs recently went to the U14 Jeff Cup girls weekend. They are more or less equal teams at the moment. Put them on the field and it's a close game.

One team entered the 7th bracket (out of 13 brackets, 8 teams each). It wasn't a great weekend, two losses and a draw. So they only get 10 GotSoccer Points for their efforts.

Another team entered the 9th bracket, and did well there. 2 wins and a loss. They were a semi finalist and got 1578 GotSoccer Points (which nearly doubles their total points).

And for some reason the Jeff Cup counts far more than any other tournament, even in the 9th U14 bracket. Meanwhile, season match play barely factors in (if at all).

The words "rankings" and "player development" in the same sentence....? What's wrong with you? LOL

rankings accomplish what they were intended to do. rankings are for entertainment purposes only, to keep the fans busy and promote notoriety and interest in the game.

For a split second there reading the first sentence I thought you might have a clue. But instead a big miss, they're not entertaining or interesting. The real story is "GotSoccer rankings are to create marketing opportunities for SportsEngine and the clubs who support them."

But SportsEngine owned Youth Soccer Rankings and shut it down.

Some rando on TS said that. Makes no sense to just yank it down only to relaunch later. Nobody does that.
