You need to be accepted to a school in order to tryout... D3 players can always go elsewhere...

Let's say that one of these Division 3 players decided very late in the summer to go to a D2 or D3 school. What is the ramifications? Or are there none because at D3 there are no letters of intent. This must have happended before. The pouint here is that D3 recruits are still open to move up until tryouts?

Very true. Regarding "walking on" at a D3 school...yes, it happens, but not to the degree most people think. All D3 colleges recruit and the coach has his "incoming recruits" and likely has his roster already planned (99% already set). A true walk on (not a recruited walk on) will likely have to be significantly better than a number of recruited players on the roster, not an equal, to secure a roster spot (not a playing spot, but just a spot on the roster). A "true walk on" will have to really wow the coach from a physical standpoint during the "fitness" testing 1st step of pre-season....you better be bigger and/or faster than a majority of the roster to keep the tryout going. Does it happen...yes...but it's not easy even at D3, and especially difficult in the NESCAC/UAA conferences.

The Blazers have had a good run over the past half dozen years. This list is a reflection of what MA clubs are getting/developing the best players. Blazers has been probably around #3 recently. But that positioning is a fickle situation. Recent state cup data would indicate they are slipping off their perch a bit.

Not really. A number joined Blazers this past year, so weren't developed by the club. Very simple - Blazers attracted attention when the team won SC a couple of years ago, so more top players tried out.

Appears to be far and away the highest number of D1 commits in a number of years (ever?). By my rough count, and taking out what appear to be foreign/out-of-state boarding school kids, there are about 40 D1s, 9 D2s, and 36 D3s for total of @ 85.

Just because you are going to a college and you have played soccer doesn't mean you were "recruited". Most of these players sought out the schools and their soccer programs.

It is great to see more and more Mass players on these lists though.

Most college teams roster about 30 players. They categorize them as impact, core and depth players. Around 16 get significant playing time, and some are released after each year. The freshman are not usually a large fraction of those 16 players. Very competitive environment.

i bet not many got over a 50% scholarship. pay to play. plus all those club fees. lol.

You can laugh all you want. Most of them got out of club what they wanted. And at least 75-80% will play some meaningful soccer.
