You may define this as "not a difficult one" compared to 12-17% at a Amherst or Williams, and it is true that it is not as tough an admit as those. However, it is a difficult admit especially if you are not a recruit. The pool of applicants is just as important as the admit rate. Most don't get in Brandeis without very strong numbers. Folks out there, especially ones who haven't been through the whole process yet see a school with 32 or 35% and assume that is a cinch. You have to be more than a good student. You have to be a very good to excellent student with acceptable test scores (preferably above 1900 and often above 2050). I know kids with 3.8s and above with SATs north of 2100 who will not get in. And Brandeis is known in academic circles as being superb.

Another metric folks should consider:
% graduate in 4 years
% graduate in 6 years
Brandeis %'s are 86 and 91
A place like U Tampa is about 35-40%
Folks might want to think twice about schools where less than half of entering freshmen ever graduate. You'd be surprised how many schools are below 70%. Anything above 80% is excellent and the 86/91 for Brandeis indeed is superb.

According to a couple of widely quoted third part rankings (US New & World Report and Forbes), Brandeis is ranked 33rd and 55th among national universities. Not exactly rarified air.
#33 in US News is a very good ranking. Look at the 2-3 above and below.
The Forbes rankings are a joke. They have Ivies and small Ivies in the 100s.
Look at other schools you consider acceptable and compare the data I gave you.

Vanderbilt? Rice? UVA? Cal-Berkeley? Northwestern? Johns Hopkins? Cornell?
I think the guy also said known as superb "in academic circles."

But even with your numbers, out of the schools you mentioned, Brandeis at the 75th percentile is only behind Tufts, and of course nationally, all of those schools are viewed as very good, excellent, superb, you choose the word.
BTW, did you notice in your data set that over 56% of enrolled students had high school GPAs above 3.75? The percentages below 3.5 are quite low. The transfers data is interesting, as average students usually aren't looking at Brandeis as a transfer option -- 531 applications, 149 admitted, 54 enrolled.
Some of you out there have no clue. Many who don't know anything sneeze at a school like Northeastern. It has an acceptance rate in the low to mid 30s and is dropping yearly. As their yield moves up, those numbers are going to drop further. My oldest with a 2100 and 3.9 got in there 3 years ago and was offered 16K in merit. This year one of my kids with higher SATs and an even higher GPA was admitted but offered zero money. Both years very top-end students in their graduating classes were waitlisted or denied. But don't worry too much. If your kid has a 2150 or higher, a 3.8 GPA with all As or all As and a B in 4-5 AP classes senior year, he or she will have a decent shot at a NEU acceptance letter.
