B league with same travel obligations as A league. Why bother?

Like all of these threads, it depends on the club and particular situation. There are ECRL kids with better college commitments than NPL kids, but if you mean quality of play? Depends on team. You’re going to be beneath ECNL in quality, generally speaking, but your experience can still be good (and now there are some national ECRL tournaments). If ECRL is a scam then most all of club is too for a lot of players (e.g. the stragglers on an ECNL team who are paying for anxiety and disappointment).

It is what it is - one of many B/C leagues out there that may or may not be an appropriate fit for your player's skills, as well as your family's time and cash budget. All depends on which teams you have to chose from and how good the coaching is. Don't go into it thinking it's a pathway to ECNL, because it isn't. Competitively it probably is better than NPL at this point, since that's now quite weak, but there would be some top EDP teams in that mix, some GAL clubs etc. Only GAL will have the upper hand with college exposure which for now is still good

In terms of level and players though?

Your inference is negative so clearly your looking to stir controversy where there is none. The RL was started with the intent of competing against EDP, NPL and other leagues. It was made clear to everyone that it’s an entity on itself that would not compete against ECNL. While teams are part of the same club they play in a separate leagues. If parents do their due diligence of the league and the players then they can’t argue it’s a scam. If you go in wearing blinders then that’s your problem if you are disappointed. I would also make the case if you are on an ECNL team where your getting less than 50% playing time you should seriously consider moving to RL.

It is a league that was created to bring more money into the clubs. This way they can maintain the "elite" image of an ECNL team but leverage the "ECNL" brand to add secondary teams and charge appropriately.

This is not false, you see it listed as ECNL-Regional sometimes, which lets the parents say their kid is ECNL and let’s the club get the same check. Another benefit is ECNL parents can say their kid is ECNL National, which gives another shot of dopamine. If clubs could develop players as well as they title teams (Elite Force Master Academy Impact Blue 06) they would almost be worth it.

In the NE it's just a rebranding of the old NPL league clubs had their B teams. No different. That is an appropriate place for many players to play but as said above that level player has other options as well.

So many cynics on this board!

Everyone involved knows the difference between ECNL and ECNL regional. I’m sure the tuition for the ECNLR teams is probably the same as it would be if those teams were still called Northeast NPL. Only Scorpions parents say “ECNL National”.

Does everyone involved really know the difference? It would be more accurate to say that everyone who has educated themselves on the business model and landscape knows the difference. There are a large number of parents out there who could not tell you what the difference is and you can be sure that the clubs offering it aren't rushing to explain it to them.

Most of the parents I know who have kids on ECRL teams have been told it's the pathway to ECNL...."your daughter will get to practice with the ECNL team and if she makes progress or someone leaves or...." etc etc etc

Not being cynic. What I said is exactly the truth... ECNLR is a perfect example of brand leveraging.

Well, I would suggest that those parents look at the older age groups at their club and see how many kids have moved up from ECNLR to ECNL. In my daughter’s age group, that number over the past couple of years is zero. If a parent is too lazy to do their research, that’s on them.
