    Fall 2012 GU12

How will the teams adjust to the bigger field? The winners and who will struggle?

The same as every year. Not that good. The benifit this year is more teams are staying 8v8.

Why is that a benefit? At some point they need to go to 11v11. Why not this year? I am looking forward to watch my daughter's team learn the new game

All the studies show that extra year of 8v8 with more touches on the ball and smaller space is beneficial. The boys pre academy do it and they are bigger stronger and faster at this age (any age). My older daughter's transition to 11 v 11 at this age was a nightmare - not just for her but for all the girls and the game is ugly. Only a handful of kids can kick it far enough to cover space and therefore the game bogs down in the middle of the field.

One extra year of growth especially at this age makes a big difference. I am thrilled my younger daughter , now a u12 will play 8v8 especially after seeing the benefit to my son through preacademy doing it. I was suspect going in but after seeing it, I am a huge supporter of 8v8 at the u12 level. They play 8v8 and 9v9 in Europe up to u14.

just because them euro foot fairies play small sided doesn't mean we should. this is the u s of a.... home of the lazer guided long ball. the birthplace of shock and awe soccer. freedom loving, bigger is better, don't give me none of that communista, socialista nonsense about small sided anything.

Exactly. I mean, we didn't even give our children babyfood. Straight to quarter pounders with cheese. Not even cut up. Makes 'em tougher.

8v8 in U12, didn't your kid get enough touches by now?
It's time to get tactical & learn how the game is played.

                    You are right

US soccer federation is wrong and so is most of Europe and south america. Let's throw under sized girls on a huge pitch and teach them tactics when they can barely kick a ball 30 yards. Have u seen 11v11 u12soccer? Looks nothing like the real game so forget tactics.
