    Individual Coaching Recommendation

My player wants help correcting some bad form and habits related to striking but wants to do it outside of the club as they haven't been able to help so far.

Can anyone recommend a qualified coach that may do individual sessions in the northern RI/ metro west area - bonus if they specialize in striking form.

    Thanks

Darren Marshall from NEFC. Worked on this specific issue with my child.

          Great post DM!

Will you be taking parents money to train players (privately) in Mass. or PA this summer ? Any additional charge for headgames ?

That can't be yet another NEFC coach awaiting disciplinary measures !

There are so many tools on this site, it is absolutely amazing. Some of you should really be ashamed. Crapping on someone while you hide behind the anonymity on this site.

My kid doesn't play for NEFC, but I can tell you DM's reputation is fantastic. I've seen him work with kids and other coaches and he is top notch. If you are considering DM and want references, please post a message with an email address (use one that you are ok getting spam at). I'd be happy to share my own experience and refer you to people that have worked directly with him.

Different poster here. I agree completely with the last post. Only fools and cowards would post something so negative about a specific coach without their own names also being made public. I also have no affiliation with NEFC as my son plays MPS. Believe me, there are more than a few coaches that I would NEVER allow my kids to get near but I would never publish their names here. I don't know this coach but I hope he has a thick skin. I guess that's a prerequisite these days in order to coach.

Best of luck to the original poster in finding the right coach/trainer for their child.

This whole topic is BS. Your kid cannot find a coach within your whole club that can teach correct striking form. R u kidding me? - not buying it.

You're right, it's all a hoax. Which is why our response should be to villify some coach who has otherwise no part in the discussion. Yeah, that makes sense.

If you don't "buy it" then move on!

I'm the OP - my intent wasn't to start a club vs club debate or have an unwitting coach's reputation sullied.

Team practice time is not the best environment for one-on-one coaching and my kid doesn't really feel like having the club's coaches have a laser-focused view on how much she's struggling to strike the ball.

In a competitive environment where each kid is competing for playing time - it doesn't always help to have coaches seeing you at your worst. As a parent, I think the coach is a great tactician and motivator and teacher of the game - not sure he's the best at breaking down and translating form to a teen-age player.

This is an individual skill that should have been developed better at earlier years and it wasn't - so to fix it now, you need a different approach that works for the player.

I'm asking on TS because this isn't exactly something you find in the yellow pages and I can't get a recommendation from her club for obvious reasons.

So please - keep the threadcrapping out.

Talk to the coach without your child around (invite him to get a coffee with you) tell him your concern, where your child wants to do with the game (college/pro etc) and then hear him out as to whether he feels your child is at the level they should be.

If they are not, ask if him if your child can have extra "private" or small sided sessions on nights your team doesn't practice to address these deficiencies. (paid of course) If he says he is not available, ask him if there are any other coaches in the club or that ones that he would recommend that could help your child.

Again I would start with your current coach.

Does she have friends playing for other clubs? Maybe those parents have a good recommendation for you. Although I agree that Darren Marshall is top notch. Katie Dempsey at Scorpions and James Hamblin at MPS are also excellent coaches.

I am a premier coach and if you think your coach isn’t noticing your child’s “striking problems” then either he/she is blind or your not giving them much credit. When someone from my team comes to me and asks to work on a particular aspect of their game I count that as a positive and can’t help but think more highly of the player. The flip side of this issue is that if you go outside your club to another premier club to ask for help that’s going to look really bad if and when it’s discovered. If your set on outside help then I’d suggest trying some of the local college coaches to see if they can help.
