Not generally unless your town doesn't have a travel program at the age group your kid qualifies for, but there is paperwork, permissions and waivers. It is fairly regulated. Otherwise everyone would flock to some of these great soccer towns.

Please share what made them "amazing"? Was it one or two kids or a pretty balanced team? Must have a decent number of club players - where do they play?
I know they have some Aztecs and Shooting Stars players.

Don't know if it's true---I find it hard to believe that such a thing could happen in a final---but I was told that they won the title by coming back from 3 goals down at the half on Sunday.

        If so...wow!!!

I had heard they were down 3-1 and won 4-3. Either way, pretty good stuff.

I guess I don’t understand the bashing of MTOC. If you check, I know you will find that most of the teams in the Final game had a number of club players. .. Yes, Scorpions, NEFC ,MPS all playing on the same team. … I know I am old fashion (because I am old), but I think playing for your town, with your best friends is special. Playing for a club that gets kids from a dozen towns does create a great soccer team, but to what end, in 4 years these teammates will be playing against each other on their high school teams. I think club soccer is great, they have great professional coaches, and good players. The only problem I have is the cost, I believe it prevents many talented kids from playing. I believe that MTOC is a true picture of the State Champion. Going by the MTOC results I wouldn’t be surprised if in 4 years the U14 girls from Andover and Franklin are both playing for the MIAA State Championship, while the club teams most of the girls are on have scattered to the winds.

Good post ppj - I like club soccer a lot and its important for kids to develop their games there against top players, but by the time your getting to the finals at MTOC the calibre of teams are strong and filled with club players. We were one of the teams that made the finals and we have 11 club players. Is the play as strong as the better clubs, no. But, its still fun for the kids and its closer to the high school experience which is the end of the line for most players anyway, so they might as well have fun and have something they can remember

In 12 years your club superstar will be in the same place as the MTOC kids..... Ex-athletes with good memories of teammates and games. In NONE of those memories will there be any thought given to the nitwits populating the sidelines.

Youth sports are not about you. So squeeze that huge ego back into yer pea-sized little noggin and get a grip on reality...........

Andover has always had strong town teams. Some years back I watched their top u14 team dismantle a strong Bandits team at their tournament. Bandit's parents were totally losing it. Really one of my favorite youth soccer memories. Bandit players individually were more skilled but the Andover girls had played together for 4 plus years and the Bandits were totally outmatched. Teams are about more than raw skill and talent.

It is hard for some people to believe but there are actually quite a few players who would be very good club players who choose not to play club soccer. Not everyone mindlessly worships the club model like the nutcases in this forum.
