    I disagree darling
Then you best prove your opinion with hard facts, sweetie, because the facts will show you that Mass has moved from the bottom third to the top third of the states in Region 1 in recent years. You can thank clubs like the Bolts, the Stars, and the Scorpions for that.

The "C" team keeper? Who writes things like this! I heard the "C" team keeper is still on the team and was playing this weekend and stopped tons of shots, so it looks like she is an Elite team keeper now. Some of you fans are so anxious to defend the team you don't care about the collateral damage. It is just plain mean. The Scorpions 16s are a great team, they - just like the Stars 16s, MPS 16s and all the other teams - will have ups and downs. You don't need to do this to kids to make your point.

          Re: Mathman Ratings

This guy posting about how great MA soccer is seems to have forgotten NJ, VA, PA are in Region 1. We can all check stats but MA has not become a dominent force in Region 1 as he suggests. We are on an upswing, but NOT EVEN CLOSE to the top 1/3.

Let's look at girls results in Region 1 last year -

          U12 8v8 Ct beat Virg
U12 11v11 East NY beat NJ
          U13 NJ beat Maryland
          U14 Mass (Stars) beat Virginia
U15 Mass (Scorps) beat East PA
          U16 NH (Seacoast) beat NJ
U17 East PA beat East NY
          U18 East Pa beat VA
          U19 East Pa beat VA

So - let's see how wrong this guy is:

New Hampshire state champion won Region 1 and went to nationals in U16. He says NH is way below MA - he's wrong there.

Ma had two finalists, both did win.
VA had 4 finalist - all lost.
NJ had 3 finalists - one won.
Eastern PA had 4 finalists - 3 of which won!
Eastern NY had 2 finalists - one won.
Maryland had one finalist - lost
NH had one finalist - won
Ct had one finalist - won

So - 2 of 9 winners. pretty good. NJ had 3 winners - better.
MA had 2 of 18 finalists - 3 states had 3 or more.

Not even close to a dominating performance. Yes a couple of wins - but clearly VA, NJ, Eastern PA and Eastern NY are far more dominent.

We could look at these going back for years and you'd see the same thing over and over again.

Mass doesn't send teams at U12. I don't think Maryland does either.

              Re: Mathman Ratings

there are 15 states in region 1.

Mass is undoubtedly in the top third nowadays. I'd say at or near top third, definitely in the top third in the past year or so, probably. In a given year, EPA, ENY, MA, VA, and MD can have only 1 or even not really any regional competitors. NJ seems the most consistent.

NJ, MD, VA, EPA, MA, and ENY are the current top dogs of the region. Each state can usually boast multiple teams capable of going to Regionals and being competitive, with top teams being capable of competing at the national level in some instances. So, Mass could very well be in the top third. Maryland and Virginia have not had the glut of top teams they used to, though they still have strong teams. New Jersey is heavy in PDA, but there are always other teams that do well.

After that, it's a little fuzzy. Western New York is probably in that mix. Connecticut used to be strong, but they've fallen off.

Next level, maybe Western Penn, RI, New Hampshire.

Finally, Maine, VT, WV and DE.

                Re: Mathman Ratings

Here's how you put a quantitative comparison between state associations in Region 1. Assign points for championships (3), finalist (2), and semi finalist (1) from the Regional Championships. Also assign points for home state of clubs who played in the Region Premier League championships, (4 pts for 1st, 3 pts, for 2nd, 2 pts for 3rd, 1 pt for 4th). This is what you get for 2008.

                Boys Regional Championship (U13 - U19)
                1.) EPA 10
                2.) NJ 9
                3. MD 8
                4.) VA 6
                5.) MA 5
                6.) Tie ENY, NYW 4
                8.) ME 2
                9.) CT 1
10.) NH, VT, RI, DEL, PAW, WVA 0

                Boys Premier League Championship (U14 - U18)
                1.) EPA 15
                2.) NJ 11
                3.) MA 8
                4.) MD 7
                5.) CT 4
                6.) ENY 3
                7.) NYW 2
8.) ME, NH, VT, RI, DEL, PAW, VA, WVA 0

                Girls Regional Championship (U13 - U19)
                1.) EPA 12
                2.) NJ 9
                3.) Tie MA, VA 7
                5.) ENY 6
                6.) MD 5
                7.) NH 2
                8.) DEL 1
9.) ME, VT, RI, CT, NYW, PAW, WVA 0

Girls Region Premier League Championship (U14 - U18)
                1.) NJ 17
                2.) MA 11
                3.) EPA 8
                4.) Tie ENY, VA 4
6.) Tie CT, MD, PAW 2
8.) ME, NH, VT, RI, NYW, DEL, WVA
