That last batch of koolaide must have been a weak one - double up at tomorrows practice.

Assuming you are talking about ECNL team not playing state cup?

I'm just the opposite. U18 player and wish we weren't doing it. Waste of time around graduations.

Ask any club player who graduated from college or in college about competitions they miss the most.
Answer: High School, and state cup.

I agree with you. I have an older kid on an ECNL team that is missing the event. The two weekends always were something I looked forward to: seeing tons of soccer at a great facility, hanging with old friends, the tension in the games.

While I will (and several other parents I spoke with) miss the event, my kid does not. At all. She and her friends that I know have no use for SC and have considered it a hassle.

I like ECNL, it has been great for us, but I miss the simplicity of U11 times when it was Maple and SC. I feel badly for the players and parents just starting out. With NEP, NEPL, Region 1, MAple, ECNL, and the next big thing: good luck sorting it all out.

                        State Cup?? Really?

Even for the players whose teams bowed out early? At all age groups?

Once attaining ECNL status, many clubs couldn't possibly care less about a state cup competition. State Cups are "small potatoes" compared to ECNL. In addition, ECNL strongly encourages a limited number of matches annually along with a regimented training sessions to matches ratio.

How about a reasonably truthful statement instead of the standard ECNL marketing spiel? Here’s another take on it:

Although the local clubs in the ECNL have bragged endlessly about their results in State Cup and in the R1PL, once the ECNL dictated to them that they could no longer play in certain events, they began to crap all over the very competitions that led to their success as a club. They will also disparage any success that other clubs achieve in those formerly lauded competitions - all in the name of perpetuating a marketing advantage for ECNL member clubs.

In addition, many kids playing on ECNL teams will really miss competing in the State Cup and achieving the clearly defined team success that will likely elude them in ECNL regional and national competitions.
