Relax. Cut the guy a break.

Everyone sure is nasty on here. Guess it's time for a new soccer season so everyone can focus their nastiness on something specific. The stretch for things to bitch about on these threads is really pathetic this time of year.

But you really are going to apply that ridiculous mantra to West African Liberians in need??? Sure, all of the Liberians suffering from lack of food, medicine, and other resources and acute institutional instability are really to blame for their own condition because they are spending their government checks on Popeyes Chicken and dope. Right. They could cure themselves in a New York minute if only they would tune in to Rush Limbaugh and watch re-runs of Jim and Tammy Bakker and Jerry Falwell.

Not to mention the fact that Liberia was founded by American slaves liberated after the civil war. If you want a hint of their connection to our country - look at their flag. Many Liberians have relatives a half dozen generations removed in the US. Based on the fact that the country was founded by freemen who paid a heavy burden for the sins of this country I would say that sending a few soccer balls and equipment to them is the least we could do.

The Spring season starts in a few weeks, he is in training for his sideline behavior.

Huh???? You don't agree that charity is a responsibility to one's fellow man? You don't agree that it should be the responsibility of every individual? You don't agree that it is a tenent of all major religions? Why are you weeping for this country if someone feels that we should take the plight of our fellow man more seriously rather than pass it on to some government bureaucrat who could really give a shyte.

So you think soccer equipment will help those Liberians???

Nah, you secularist still don't get it. The Bakkers and Falwells are no different than the current charity of the month, Invisible Children. When you make a charitable donation, it behoves anyone to make sure that the money donated hits it's intended target. That is exactly why I prefer to dictate the causes to which I donate my money, rather than hand it over to some government bureaucrat. After all, take a look at our models of charitable giving. Start with our VP Joe Biden who gave a grand total of 1.4% of his income to charity in 2010. But, hey, look on the bright side. That's a big improvement over 2006 when he donated a total of $360 to charity.

We'd all be in better shape if people understood that responsibility also starts at home. That means YOU are responsibile for yourself, than members of your family, than members of your immediate community and so the circdes moves outward. THAT my friend is the benefit of religion. It provides you with an additional layer of concentric circles who will help you in your time of need. That's far better than being dependent on some government bureaucrat where you are just a number. That's the current group secularist that are running this country will never understand.
And as long as billionaires don't get taxed--you left that out. The extreme right in this country is so out of touch that it is pathetic. The Rep1percenters are also boring: set up your charities so you don't tax me (which should my rich ass help anyone?), bigotry, bible thumping, etc, etc...

Blah, blah, blah. Conservatives still give a hell of a lot more to charity than do cheapskate liberals.

Oh and BTW did you catch the latest Pew study that says liberals whenever challenged or confronted tend to respond defensively with anger, even trying to shut off or silence their critics (sort of like trying to shutdown Limbaugh while giving Maher and Schultz a nod and a wink for the same behavior or worse) instead of engaging in civil discourse or debate? The numbers show liberals are twice as likely to shut down the discussion than are either conservatives or moderates. No surprise there! The tolerant left isn't so tolerant and that is pretty obvious by comments such as yours that lay bare your religious bigotry.
