used soccer equipment for Liberia, West Africa

    Hi
I am chairman for a nonprofit organization that has been working in Liberia, West Africa for the last seven years. I am trying to enlist the aid of local soccer leagues to collect used soccer equipment that I can send to the children of Liberia...any chance your organization would like to assist?
Please contact me at your convenience...I'd be glad to provide additional information about our organization. Thanks

There are people here in America that could use stuff. I help them all the time. How about helping our own first?

If you don't want to give then don't give, but you come on here and post something negative about an organization trying to help people?

The mentality of some in this country is going to destroy it. Everyone is "our own." When will people understand that? The same folks who object to other countries showing nationalistic entitlement including based on some connection to religion fail to see the same fallacy applied to the USA.

You know the old saying "Charity begins at home".

We'd all be in better shape if people understood that responsibility also starts at home. That means YOU are responsibile for yourself, than members of your family, than members of your immediate community and so the circdes moves outward. THAT my friend is the benefit of religion. It provides you with an additional layer of concentric circles who will help you in your time of need. That's far better than being dependent on some government bureaucrat where you are just a number. That's the current group secularist that are running this country will never understand.

Sorry but in a biblical context charity means piety. A little mix-up based in translation from Greek to Old English to Modern English.

In a modern relgious context the verse refers to the responsibility of Christians to do their best to take care of their own family but if unable to do so the church will provide. The origins of our modern welfare system are rooted within Christian charity to the poor of a community.

For those of use who think globally the entire world is our community.

But I think Dickens summed it up best "Charity begins at home but Justice begins next door..."

That being said I have some soccer balls for the OP.

                        Charity means pity? Huh???

No charity means responsibility to ones fellow man. It is a tenent of just about every major religion of the world, not just Christians.

The bigger issue is that it is an individual responsibility, not one to be passed off to a government bureaucracy.

OMG. Piety. Pity. Different words. I weep for our country.

                          Explains Santorum's popularity though.

My friend, it's one thing to to endorse false stereotypes of US citizens in need in your rant about government bureaucracy and "the current group of secularists". That's bad enough. But you really are going to apply that ridiculous mantra to West African Liberians in need??? Sure, all of the Liberians suffering from lack of food, medicine, and other resources and acute institutional instability are really to blame for their own condition because they are spending their government checks on Popeyes Chicken and dope. Right. They could cure themselves in a New York minute if only they would tune in to Rush Limbaugh and watch re-runs of Jim and Tammy Bakker and Jerry Falwell.
