This is the best solution, and one I have seen used a number of times.

One of the advantage of most private schools is that there is always a soccer team to play on. The schools that start in 6th or 7th have middle school or JV teams for 8th graders, and the ones that end in 8th or 9th have "varsity" teams for the 8th grader. Either way, you get an 8th grade school team in the fall.

This is very much town dependent and you should check with your town. Some towns, Foxboro for instance, enter their strongest teams in the fall and then consolidate into more parity teams in the spring. Other towns look for full season (fall and spring) commitment to play on the top team. That said, if your player is very good I would be surprised if any coach would not take him for just the fall.
