    College Clinics

    Hi all-
A few of my daughter's teammates are attending this camp which was recommended by their high school coach. My question is, how valuable is attending it if she is not really interested in the host school? She is a junior this year and hopes to play in college, but is looking at schools further away from home.

Great camp to bring a good number of a girls HS team to train together just prior to starting the HS pre-season to get a head start on the HS season. Many HS teams from the North Shore attend this camp and find it very good tune up for pre-season. However, if you are looking for exposure to college coaches not from the North Shore area this is not what this camp is about. That said my daughter's HS team used to go a as team and found it very good for a tune up prior to HS double sessions.

Is it me, or does this sound like an advertisment by the camp itself??

I think it's just you. Why wouldn't the person just post a link to the camp like everyone else does?

It's just you. Nicolle Wood has better things to do. That and her HS camp traditionally brings in a big crowd, particularly from north shore HSs.

Ditto the previous poster who said if exposure is what you're after, don't bother. But if you're looking for a competitive and fun few nights, it's one of the better options pre-tryouts.

                Hi,
Original poster here. Just to clarify, I was not asking about the summer camp, although that sounds like a good option. This is for a one day clinic in March that seems geared to players who want to play in college.

My daughter's club team may not have enough to field a team this spring which has been frustrating, and we have not had much help with the college process either. While she is not specifically interested in SS I was just wondering if it was worthwhile to attend for the experience.

                Thank you for the feedback.

Does your club have a director? If so, have you met with him or her? If you haven't met with your director or haven't received help on the process then what are you doing?

Our club has a director, who also coaches 5 teams. Yes, 5 teams. He has not been receptive to requests for help and we have never had a "college" night or anything like that. We are up on the north shore, and the U17 teams in other clubs are pretty competitive and don't have anymore openings this late. My daughter is not a top tier player that would replace someone already on a roster. I guess we are a bit naive in that we didn't know how much other clubs do since this is our first club experience.

I'm thinking that doing the SS clinic just for the college selection process talk alone might be helpful.

also use the search functions and wade through the discussions here. there's a lot of baloney, but there have also been some very inciteful posts from parents that have navigated the process shared over the years.

Be your own daughter's advocate on this. If you have a reasonably priced local (to you) option to attend some college clinics, then not sure there is a down side. Just be clear on your expectations (and your daughter's) for what you want to get out of it.

Hi...not sure if it is just me, and it's certainly not my business, but unless I missed something and intrepreted it all this wrong, your predicament seems odd. That is, you said your daughter is not a top tier player, or even one that could crack the roster of other teams just in your neighborhood, yet you seem to bemoan the lack of experience/knowledge of the workings of the college selection process (as far as soccer's role in it, presumably, otherwise the post makes no sense whatsoever) in her plans to play soccer in college, where the nature of the "pyramid" that is competitive soccer means it is even more difficult to make a team and play.

Also, I would think that if you know about this website, presumably you have read threads here and seen that there is no shortage of advice or simply even tales of how for even some of the very, very, very best college players, never mind the average aspiring matriculant, that the *soccer* should be one of the least important considerations (it is definitely worth the effort to look up related posts if you can). Unless maybe you mean college club soccer??? Anyway, I wish you the best. Hopefully its just me...maybe a result of having spent all day at the USYS conference listening to soccer talk. : )

ForzaAzzurri .. What happens if the person is sincere?? Anonymous forums bring in all types with all different agendas. Not all of them are bad. There is a lot of ignorance out there because most parents use the clubs as their source for insight.

As far as the recruiting implications, there is a straight forward answer to this question. It depends upon who is working at the clinic. You go to a college clinic if you want to try and form a relationship with one of the coaches working it. Since the SS clinic probably only has SS coaches working it, you only go to it if you want to go to SS. Most of these type of clinics usually only have the coaches from that college there.

There are some other benefits to consider. Sometimes just hearing a different teaching voice can be a value, especially if your child has been with one coach for a while. Sometimes it is nice to just go out and play soccer with players you don't normally play with, especially if they are older and more experienced. Sometimes just seeing what is out there helps to sort out where a player fits in the "pyramid", especially if you have no clue what you are doing.
