There are only 13 teams entered?????!!! Why bother without Stars and Scorpions??? Stars has their second and third teams and Aztecs has their second as well. The top 3 just got wasted by Scorpions and Stars has never lost to any of the top 3. The state cup is a joke!!!!!!!!!!!

Winner is not MA state champ...winner is only MA state "cup" champ! Being a "cup" champ doesn't make you the best in MA, only makes you a tournament champ.

Let me try to understand your points.
First, if the Stars or Scorpions don't send their best team, then the rest of Massachusetts should simply fold..?? You are an arrogant ass for suggesting that Massachusetts youth soccer doesn't exist if the Stars and Scorpions aren't there.

As for the State Cup.....the winner WILL go to the Regional tournament, whether the Stars and Scorpion clubs like it or not and regardless of what parents like you feel. The winner will be crowned the State Champ no matter what any other rankings formula or parental feelings might otherwise suggest.

As for 'what does it matter'?? It matters to the kids. The OP of this forum has clearly highlighted why youth sports has major issues......and these issues are largely parental driven.

u17-18 is another big drop off year, just like the first HS year.

Teams lose players to college.
HS seniors lose interest to reality and senioritis.
Parents lose interest when they start realizing how much they have to pay for college.

U19 is even more interesting. Only 5 teams and three are out of the Stars' camp. Other two are Caldwell's Scorps and the MPS entry. You also have the re-emergence of Redmond coaching the Rovers and JD still with the former "ECNL" Stars entry. At U19 there is no qualifying league or roster continuation rules. So it is possible that the "big 3" (Stars, Scorps and Rovers) could feature very different players than the fairly consistent line-ups that each has used for the last half-decade. Personally I hope that the teams do feature their traditional rosters (or close to it) as that means that this tournament will feature some of the state's all-time best womens players and basically every D1 freshman from Massacusetts.
