It depends on the goal...not everyone who plays club soccer is thinking D1 scholarship...some are simply hoping to be the best in their respective towns. You're right that they may be flattered being approached by one of these top clubs, but not everyone who is approached jumps ship.
This is quite true, esp at U12. These 2 teams are clearly above the rest. That does NOT mean that here aren't 20+ players would could start on either team spread out throughout MA. I'd bet there are, the rest of their team is just mediocre and as such their team is mediocre even if the individual player is very good and would look even better on one of these 2 teams.

Some parents just don't want the pressure or to take the risk. Their daughter may look better on the top two teams, but they also may not play as much. Not many would opt for being the bench player when they are starting now and playing nearly the whole game. There are no guarantees when you leave. Unfortunately, they may also miss the boat when it comes to training, with this mindset. ALthough there are some excellent coaches in GU12 Blue that are not part of either of the two top teams.

Has it occurred to anyone that putting 18 starters on one team means 7 of them will be bench players? Please don't forget that even if you are rostered on one of the top teams but sit the bench, this will not help you improve your skills as a player...especially at U12 when its peak time for muscle memory and establishing foundations. Yes, training is critical, but so is game experience.

There are many reasons for the choices individual families make. There is also far too much criticism and judgement cast on TS if a family with a talented player doesn't jump at the chance to play for a top team.

I'm sorry, but this is just not smart thinking.

There are some age groups where you can say the coaching pool and clubs are so great that you'd never think of leaving. This is not one of those.

Crusaders - PT - good coach, but doesn't care about you or your kid, actually may not know who you are
Hamlets - MA - Low, low level
Rovers - MW - average coach
North Shore - SG - average
Select - LL - over the hill

Meanwhile you've got JD and BB, two of the best around. If you have a chance to play for one of these teams, you have to take it. If you want the best for your child, as you would in most other areas of your life, you'd ignore the fact that the kids want to play with their friends, you'd make it work. The kids can make friends on these teams, I'm positive they would make friends on these teams.

When these teams are rolling on yours by 5 goals or more, believe me playing time won't be an issue.

And what good does a player get out of garbage time. Players often play out of position, strategy changes and in my view bad habits develop. If your not a starter on this team your not going to develop. These coaches coddle the stars and treat everyone else as interchangeable parts. These coaches are out for themselves and what's in their best interests not that of your player. The minute they find someone better it's to the bench or out the door. That's the reality of playing for one of these two coaches.

What has BB done to deserve this type of designation? His teams typically falls apart at older ages unless he bails like he did to his u14s and will soon do to his other teams. This was obviously posted by nefc as no stars parent would put JD down on bb's level.

This post shows no class whatsoever. Why on earth would anyone so blatantly put down other coaches. Each of those teams this poster named managed to remain in the top bracket so stop it. Let this thread DIE please....let the games be played and stop this nonsense.

Of course playing time will be an issue. It's always an issue. Regardless of the score. You can't develop if you don't play and you don't play if you're second string UNLESS your starters have upped the score by 5 or more points and the coach decides to throw the bench a bone.

You are using your own definition of "best for your child" here. Just because you think one place is the best place for your u12 child doesn't mean its the best place for someone elses kid. Too many people here seem to think they know whats best for all children-because they know (or think they know) whats best for their own child. How about you worry about your child and where your child can/does/wants to play, and not worry about what you think is best for every one else's child.

If you need me to worry about your kid for you, that's fine.

I'll teach him/her how to think for themselves, weigh the features and benefits of each decision they face and to be accountable for their actions.

I suggest you teach them how to think or they'll expect you to keep thinking for them. If you keep micro-managing their career you should start clearing a space in your basement for them to move into when they graduate.

These last few post have a personal feeling to them, like two neighbors on different club teams going on about how good their kid is, and how bad the neighbor's kid is at soccer.

Really is that the best you have to share here on TS, go next door and duke it out.
