    Northeast Regional Futsal Championships

    http://www.futsalma.com/regionals

January 13-16 at the Park School in Brookline, sanctioned by US Soccer Federation

Any of your son's or daughter's teams playing in this?
How has the competition been in the past?
Does the staff do a good job of running this event?
Has anyone gone on to Nationals, and can speak about that experience?

Son has played there in the past. Usually one or two good teams in his age group, rest are average or below. Not surprising as it is hard to find good futsal competition locally. Tournament is well run, but not much space to hang out between games. Haven't been to this nationals, only the other futsal nationals held in the summer.

Explosion FC seems to send teams to the Regionals and Nationals on a consistent basis.

Kind of easy to "win" a futsal state championship when nobody else enters. "States," "Regionals" and "Nationals" are a waste of time, money and effort.

Futsal training however is a different story. My daughter's club recently started futsal training and the improvement of the entire team's footskills have improved dramatically

I have to agree with this comment. Futsal is a phenomenal way of acquiring foot skills and quick decision making. It's ashame that more area teams don't do futsal training in the winter months. Playing short-sided soccer games on small boarded fields do little to prepare older kids for the spring while futsal is designed to be played in small venues.

There are few spots that offer training for soccer/futsal:
Bill Sampaio at forekicks (Drills and games)
Cesar Salazar in Revere (mostly pick up futsal games)
            Emelio Williams (Valeo: Weekend clinics)

It is not a waste of money if you are playing the better FUTSAL teams of those that choose to play Futsal. Anyone who has played it either has some skills, or acquires skills quickly. Some hate it because FUTSAL exposes a players lack of skills, and ability

If you are looking for a $3 trophy and got soccer points better head to Arizona with BB team or CASL with the rest of the pack

Our club will be entering the tournament for some of the age groups and we are looking forward to it. Futsal is a great winter time sport for the reasons already listed in this thread. On top of that, my kid has a lot of fun playing it - which is the reason of all.

Didn't finish my sentence... "which is the *best* reason of all"

I think it's ashame that most people in the area don't know about futsal. I recommend that anybody who wants their child to develop their skills in ball control and confidence in close quarters should go to Youtube and check out the sport. For those who do decide to put their child onto futsal, expect them to get frustrated early because it's an extremely fast paced game and difficult to pick up. The benfits however will show in time.

As opposed to advertising about "Regional Futsal Champions!" in a tournament where all you have to do is write a check to play in it? That's the sales pitch one club loves to throw around at potential players (my daughter included).

No intelligent college coach cares who won a tournament at 12 yrs old when your 18 yrs old to 21 yrs old.

So the only memory of the tournament will be the players ( plus Mom and dad)
What it meant to those that played in an event is all that counts. (T-S bullies do not count) Were the games challenging, and did they have fun.

                        Happy Holidays to all

Overall the State teams are alright.....not great.
There is a massive boy on the U12 state team with good skills. Any idea what club team he plays for?
Otherwise, there have been some very talented players and teams that seem to have managed to position themselves on the field and pass the ball around.

                              futsal

I would agree that futsal is an excellent way to develop player's first touch, if they didn't use a ball that "gives" you a better first touch. Have some patience and learn .......
