What I think is the parent is trying to determine the best plan of action for his/her son.

Again, what the kid wants and what the parent wants for the kid are probably two different things. From the parent's perspective he or she is trying to determine the best plan of action for his/her son that meet each of their wants and desires for college.

I know nothing about the young man and what it is that makes the coach think he is D1 material, but not good enough at his age (15? 16? 17?) to actually earn playing time at a top tier D1. For all I know it may be that he needs to add some weight, height or muscle. It's not my call to make. All I know is that at age 15, 16 or 17 life has not yet passed him by, even in the world of college soccer.

"What are some of the Division 1 soccer schools that are very good academically but not as good at soccer as the top tier schools such as BC, UNC or Duke?"

I know you are trying hard to prove some point (still unclear what that point is), but you are really straining, and did not answer whether, on balance, you believe all of those ideas together are rational. If true that the parent is just trying to come up with the best plan of action as you put it, do you think it sounds like a good plan of action, or inherently contradictory and flawed? And you did not answer whether you think going to one school with an expressed intention to transfer before you've even started makes sense. We're not talking about a move from a JUCO to a 4 year school. This also presumes being an incredible standout at a lower level D1 to be on the radar for possible transfer to a high D1, which is a huge presumption. Just ask DAP kids with outstanding soccer pedigrees and PG years on top of that who are sitting on the bench at lower level D1s (Patriot League, etc). And somewhere NESCAC fits into all that. And I don't think we're talking about a 15 year old or even a young 16.

As far as "the question," you don't need coaches to identify what the lower level D1s are, and many coaches might not even know the answer to that question (although that is the least complicated matter in this whole ridiculous discussion).

Gee, in the olden days, folks used to choose a college for the education. Imagine.

Many still do.... and then people on TS say that they are settling!

Sorry, blockhead, the point is not clear to YOU because you are fixated on the fact that everyone should see the world from your point of view. You are just arguing for the sake of an arugment, but I am sure the OP gets the point well enough and that is all that matters.

That's what I thought. For whatever reason you are choosing to react more to an instinct to critique than you are to the OP's admixture of thoughts, which you know to be contradictory and fallacious....unless of course, you really don't know, in which case you do not have sufficient intelligence to converse with.
