It is amazing how polite these people can become after they have been racked over the coals by the coach of a team they are dying to keep their player on.
So true. And by the way, those type of people aren't wanted in any other club because the word is out and they know it. If they think little Johnny is getting dropped they will all the sudden become very quiet. Best response yet. 100% AGREE

totally agree--that's why I said the coach bears some responsibility. I have seen it perpertuated by a coach at a large prestigious club though. Depsite the fact that these parents may be in the 1% group--man can they do a lot of damage.

The responses all are assuming that this mode of behavior is unique to soccer. It is everywhere. It does not matter what area one is looking at. There are parents who will do anything to gain an advantage for their child(ren) and not care about the collateral damage to others that they cause.

Look at how cut throat parents get with respect to Honors/AP and academic awards. I have seen parents fabricate things to harm a child who might have gained an academic honor to make the chances better for their child.

We live in a society that has lost its way. There are few who have any honor or honesty. They view values as something that only losers have. Rules do not apply to them.

This is just way to pessimistic. Never in the history of the world has there been a healthier, better educated, richer, more privileged generation than the one our children are members of. They have the best medicine, the most food, the best educational opportunities, and the longest life expectancy of any human beings that have ever walked the planet.
Stop whining and wringing your hands about the demise of moral society as you know it. Every generation does this as they grow old and obsolete. You can read writings from Greece from 3,000 years ago that sound like they were written yesterday lamenting the moral demise of the next generation. Same as it ever was.

Our kids are just fine. They will do better than we did with the world. The bad apples are the exception, not the rule. Their values are way better than the values I was raised with. The white supremacist movement is dead, for starters. That's a relief. The male chauvinist thing is dying as well. Also good. 60 years ago there were no integrated boys soccer teams and no girls soccer teams at all. That was a way that needed to get lost.

Wow, where do you live, I'd like to move there. Maybe our kids are active enough to be healthy, but the rest of the country is obese, and a high percentage is morbidly so.

The cost of educations has far outpaced the growth of your typical Americans income. Even if you do get an over priced education, you're greeted by close to double digit unemployment when you graduate(and a highly skilled labor pool that is vying for the exact same jobs).

Their values are a disaster waiting to happen, with casual sexual attitudes driving an increase in sexually transmitted diseases.

Racism is alive and well, we just don't talk about it. Ask a black guy from the south if he'd ever consider moving to Boston and you'll get an ear full.

There's still an old boys club in the corporate world as well.

I'm really glad girls get to play soccer, though.

Other than that, your view of the world is myopic at best, truly frightening at worst. Keep telling yourself everything is okay....and keep voting for Democrats.

If one parent really sucked the life out of an entire team, then I think the team had way bigger problems to begin with.

This is yet another case of it's "all about me". If you have ONE bad parent, then deal with it and teach your kid to deal with it. There is always going to be one bad parent, one bad teacher, one bad boss. Don't let them control your life.

Politics aside, the poster you just responded to has a point. Actually our children have an uphill battle ahead of them to even continue the lifestyle they are accustomed to once they are out on their own. First time in American history a generation may not be as well off as their parents. Trust.

THAT said and back to the topic, those obnoxious or constantly complaining types of parents drive kids and families away from clubs they are otherwise happy with.

Actually the post made a lot of sense until the end when I expected it to end sarcastically with....keep voting for Republicans. Just goes to show how differently all of us can see the root of problems out there, including with issues like racism, corporate greed, and cronyism. I'm amazed someone could write all of that and then conclude like that. For me, watching the Republican debates is like watching a case study in every imaginable ill all on one stage. They are shocking in some of things they believe and actually say out loud.

All of this is why team cultures can get so twisted up. We all see things very clearly in our own way. We all think our point of view makes perfect sense and can't fathom why any intelligent, well adjusted adult would possibly disagree with us. And yet they do. Being positive you are right pretty much means nothing when it comes to opinions in general.

Agreed... Americans have shifted away from working together to get the job done. achieve common goals, etc. Now, its every person for themselves. The reasons for this shift are many, and most would disagree on why it has happened, but the fact is, it has happened. Being loyal to anything is extremely rare, and in my opinion, this has caused us to become a much less tolerant society. People don't even really try to see things from another's prospective. Why would we bother, since its all about what is in one's best interest at that moment in time. If the president (no matter which party) operates the govt based on what is in his best interest and what will get him elected, rather than thinking about the long term, or what is in the best interest of the country as a whole, why would we expect people to be loyal to a club or team, or think beyond the next season?

What is difficult with this is a parent who gains the coaches ear then perpetuates an agenda geared towards their kid that causes good players to leave unnecessarily and the team slide into mediocrity. Shame on that parent and shame on that coach. A few MPS Cape parents fall into this category.

Malcolm X said Republicans were wolves: they growled as they approached you, making their intentions clear. Democrats, on the other hand, were foxes: they smiled at you to make you think they were your friends – but then they bite you when you least expect it.
I believe that the current “crisis” in Washington illustrates that Malcolm was correct. And I say that as a loyal member of the Democratic Party who recognizes that the vast majority of the Democrats elected to represent us at the federal level do not have a sense of loyalty to you and I. They might say some fine words come election time, but fine words are just that; words alone do not create jobs, reduce suffering, or bring about social justice.
