Dad coach and dad DOC (name of thread) are too very different things. Dad NTC is, of course, more different still.
By the way, most of the garden variety coach dads I know are harder on their kid than the other kids.

Thats a fair point, and if correct that coach is doing a disservice to not just his own team but his own son as well.

I know a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy whose second cousin knows a guy, whose son sucks and he's on the A team. Go figure.

As a DOC/coach I have had my share of politics come into play. The case is that it not a regular thing but it does happend.
My president was pressured into having certain players on my team . We had our normal tryout in the fall and we did the best that we could to choose the best players. When I was handed the final roster in the winter it was missing two player that I thought and was under the impression they would be on my team.
I later found out that they were moved to a lower team to make room for 2 other player which happended to be coaches son in our association. The roster was final and when I approached the president he admitted that he was pressured into taking these two boys on. At first I said to myself that I could deal with it but the cancer showed up early in the season after a tought loss and it was mainly due to the fact that when we sub the coaches sons we weren't as strong .The boys knew something was rotten and it looked like it was my decision .How do you tell a bunch of 10 and 11 years old that this is life. YOU DON'T!!!

Kids are a lot smarter that we give them credit and especially when you have competitive players and they know who belongs and who doesn't.
So if your the DOC son and you deserve to be on the team the kids will accept it but if you really don't belong they won't tell you but it will come out at some point

If he is average, then how is he invited to id2 camps, nationaltraining centers, and national camps where his dad isnt even on the staff.

I understand your frustration and you have many valid points but it seem that you are loosing sight of the fact you a talking about 10 and 11 year old kids. I am a coach not a parent, so I am looking at it froma coaches perspective, when a situation like this come about in a team and a coach takes it so personal it is hard to hide it from the players which quickly leads to poor attitudes. Make the most of the hand you are dealt, even if they got on the team through family connections they are still kids. Also i think it is rediculous that you blame a tough loss on 2 players, do a netter job at deciding where and whe to sub them. Lastly my feeling is that the source of that "cancer" was you, you are obviously mad about the 2 kids being there and i imagine you dont hide it well, secondly if you notice thAt happening it is a coaches job to deflect the negativity onto themsleves. Wether you believe it or not, some time we as coahes need to be the adult and take so e blame. They are 11 years old, bigger lessons to learn than winning

I'm sure after the boy's father shares a few pints with BA at the Kells he can convince him from DOC to another to put the kid on every roster there is. Don't think for one second BA dosen't have this kind of pull with regional and national coaching staff.

I had a few pints with our coach and we didn't get on the national team....matter of fact, we didn't even get an extra 5 minutes in the MAPLE games.

                    Coincidence?

Player does manage to get invited to every single ID opportunity. And in this particular case, the lineage argument is not valid.

Here we go again.. You are starting to sound like a bigger fool than you would like. Care to tell us what bitter parent you might be? Let me guess, no. Care to tell us who your son is while you bash others? Let me guess, no to that one as well. Maybe you should get a stool at the Kells and wait there with bated breath for all those "drinking buddies" to show up as they must surely be plotting the demise of your kids soccer career.

Hate to break it to you, but the Kells has been closed for
a few years now! Just as well,my guess is you couldn't
handle a few pints. Better off at the country club with
the snob G&T drinkers who you mistakenly think are
                        your friends!

Looks like being DOC pays off again. Anyone notice on Blackwatch's homepage that SC's son was afforded a call up to the Revs and the NTC this past month. That kid is really busy. Wish I could pull strings like that for my kid.

Yep. It's all about connections with that club. SC's kid doesn't deserve it by a long shot (but he is young & will still develop) and neither does DA's kid. Have you ever seen him play? The kid is a frightened deer in the head lights when it comes to any kind of 50/50 ball or header. Put the ball at his feet and he has some nice 1 v. 1 skills but he will almost never win a 50/50 ball. He shys away from contact and then at the slighest bit of contact throws himself to the carpet wailing European style. His dad is pushing him & buying his way with every opportunity. That's from first hand experience. My kid is in the DAP with him buy my kid worked his way there and deserves to be there. He starts and plays every game and I have never had one conversation with the coaches. Many of these Blackwatch kids are just part of the "good old boy network" - one hand washes the other. It's pathetic.

Defnitely agree with the assessment of DA's son. He is a daddy's boy for sure.
