    MPS Announce Inaugural Summer Showcase
New tournament to be held weekend of July 14th – 15th

Waltham 14th October 2011: MPS would like to announce the inaugural Summer College Showcase for U15 – U19 boys and girls teams. New for 2012, the event will be held at Citizens Bank Fields in Lancaster, MA over the weekend of July 14th – 15th

The event will provide an ideal opportunity for college coaches to recruit players at a Massachusetts event during the summer months for the first time.

“The Summer College Showcase is a great platform for teams and players to perform in front of a host of college coaches as part of their individual college recruitment process,” said MPS Leagues & Tournaments Director James Hamblin. “We look forward to welcoming a host of college coaches to the inaugural event which will allow players to showcase their talents without having to travel across the country.”

The Summer Showcase event will complement the series of annual college chowcase tournaments hosted by MPS. The club currently hosts the Memorial Day Showcase, in conjunction with Needham Youth Soccer, as well as with the MPS Thanksgiving College Showcase. These tournaments attract upwards of 100 college coaches in attendance at each event.

Registration is now open for the MPS Summer Showcase. To register a team, or for more information, please contact tournament director James Hamblin at jhamblin@mpsbr.com or call 781-891-6900.

How many club teams are still playing in July (other than MPS and Seacoast and those training for nationals)?

This will be great for our family as we like to spend our summers in scenic and historic Lancaster anyway (and neighboring Leominster - birthplace of Johnny Appleseed!).

Actually this is not bad idea if MPS can attract decent turn of local college coaches as it is much less likely to conflict with school or other activities (other than those pesky family vacations).

What will the ambient temperature on the turf be, at say 2:00p.m., in the middle of July?

There's always the 11 grass fields that are usually in prefect shape come July, having little use all spring due to the constant field closures everytime it sprinkles!

Same as it is for the District kids who play there all summer. They'll survive...

Will the college coaches want to sit on the hot sidelines? To be determined

What clubs would they get to go to this? What is it going to be all MPS teams? The good team may still be playing. ENCL teams have their playoffs that month. I think most coaches would go to see those games. I think it is just another way for MPS to try to make more money.
