With all of the money spent trying to get a scholarship, you'd be better off trying to get your child into a good Prep school. The opportunities there will last a lifetime, while the soccer will only last for their short soccer career (unless you have the next national team player sleeping in your house....) They'll have the education and the physical skill to play at a college level, or be a true multi-sport athlete. Your child might not be a starter in college, but a learn about academic index and you'll have a good hint on what it takes to get into an Ivy League school if that is a potential goal.

Two other points:
For Division 1 college/universities all players have been playing club.
For Division 3 about 90% are playing club soccer before college. Those that don't are weaker players.
Second: The price of town soccer has risen. Our town is now 400-500 dollars for the year.
The cost of club soccer has stayed steady for the last 3-4 years.

I coach both town travel and club. What you do get at club is a team of players who actually want to be there. At town you get whoever signed up and most coaches coach to the lowest skilled/motivated player. Both serve a purpose but if your child wants to play in college then club is the way to go.

$$$$$$$$$$Tax$$$$$$$$$$$$
Wait till the legislature finally realizes how much $ is being paid for club Sports.
I can see it now, a Luxury Tax on club soccer fees. Of course another legislator will attach an amendment for another fee to offset the cost for the disenfranchised. Then a lawsuit will be filed alleging discrimination and the clubs will have to enter into consent decrees. Affirmative action quotas will be kept. Public High Schools will ban club players from their sports programs in order to "level" the playing field....
