No doubt that is a good move for a team that does not have players that will fit on a D-I team. For the top teams they have to get out to some of the national showcases.

True, but you are only talking about 2 teams in Mass. The rest may have 1 or 2 players who possibly have a chance play D1, thus why drag the entire team down South for the possible benefit of 1 or 2 players out of 18? Stay up north for the tournament so the entire team can benefit and let the 1 or 2 top players go as guest players down to these national tournaments to be seen. If you will likely be playing D3 or D2 soccer in New England is there really a need to go to CASL? Probably not, thus save the $$.

you are wrong. wish you would listen to the many many people who come back after going through this to tell you that the exposure game is not how kids actually get to where they are going in college. just like in business it is all about who you know and who you know, knows. honestly the only ones that benefit by going to all of these tournaments are the clubs. guess youll have to figure that one out the expensive way.

here is a tip though. have your child narrow down a list of 5 colleges where they can actually see themselves going to school. spend all you travel time and money going to look at schools so they can build that list. once your kid has their list narrowed down start asking around who knows who at those schools. youll be surprised at how connected we all are. have those people call the coach for you to make an introduction and see if there might be interest. if there is then have your child call and make an appointment with that coach to talk about the program and the school. once at that meeting ask that coach how you can arrange for them to come see your child play. youll be surprised at how easy it is.

Good advice. having gone through the process twice in the last 4 years it is sound advice. Big travel to multiple tournamanets for exposure is a huge waste of $$$ unless you are really a D1 prospect and there are truthfully only about 10 to 12 (at most who get any significant athletic $$) of these each year in Mass on both the girls and boys side. You must be realistic because unless your player is the biggest and fastest around then they are unlikely a D1 prospect. ID the colleges and work it that way. If D2 or D3 in New England is your likely landing place you do not need to travel the country (or even down the East coast) to get the coach
to watch you play. Save the $$ and put it to better use. Pick the colleges first, then check out the soccer situation because the player is one injury away from not playing college soccer, thus pick the college for the school itself first and foremost. Don't go chasing the scholarship fantasy and you won't be dissappointed.
