Normally a top CMass team, but last year the bottom fell out as several top recruiting classes departed leaving little talent at the V and JV levels. There were also comments about the new coach, but I don't know about that. Not sure they are bringing in new talent. They usually do.

Exactly what about St. Johns !!! All the local talent is staying local. St. Johns has drawn majority of it's talent over the years from Shrewsbury, Wachusett and Shepard Hill high schools. When they dominated Central Ma a few years Back 8 starters were from those school districts, but players of that caliber now are staying local. The talent that is going now to St. Johns is second teir talent from those towns. Top players are staying at Shrewsbury, Wachusett and Shepard Hill.

Shrewsbury is awful, Wachusett has not won districts since 1997 and Shepard Hill is nothing.

I think the previous poster was making a point of STJ was good because the good players use to go to STJ but now stay at local High schools. Thats how I read it. Best teams in D1 Central Mass are Algonquin, Marlboro, Wachusett and North.

I just re-read it. I see where the poster was coming from now. Will St. John's even get above .500. Last year was their worst year in recent memory........maybe ever.

Algonquin lost some of its bad influences to graduation, so it should be a less controversial team (hopefully fewer fights with opponents). Incoming jrs are athletic, but very few club-trained players among them, so 2012 should be interesting. Not sure what the team's doing about a striker - one player is coming back from a season-ending injury last year, no idea whether he'll be effective.

I also think Marlborough & Wachusett will be strong.

Leominster lost everyone something like 6-7 starters, at least 3 of them
Impact players. JV program was horrible.
