    Boston Breakers

Couple of local ladies on the roster.

ALLSTON, MA (March 31, 2011) - The Boston Breakers have officially announced their 2011 regular season roster. Fourteen players return from last year's team, including five who have been with the team since its 2009 WPS debut season.

After a slow start to the 2010 WPS season, the Breakers went on a tear, going 9-2-1 during a critical stretch of the season. That streak took the team from fifth place in the WPS table all the way up to second place, which they secured with a 10-8-6 final regular season record. The second-place finish automatically qualified the Breakers for the WPS Super Semi-final, which took place at Soldier's Field Soccer Stadium on the campus of Harvard University. It took two overtime periods to decide the Super Semi-final game between Boston and the Philadelphia Independence. Unfortunately for the Breakers, the Independence scored in the second overtime, stealing a 2-1 win to send them to the WPS Championship.

The Breakers return a number of stalwart players from last year's team, including Osborne, two-time MedImmune Defender of the Year, two-time WPS All-Star, and U.S. Women’s National Team defender Amy LePeilbet, English international and Boston’s leading scorer for the past two seasons, midfielder Kelly Smith, English international defender and 2010 WPS All-Star Alex Scott, U.S. Women’s National Team forward and 2010 WPS All-Star Lauren Cheney, and WPS Rookie of the Year runner-up, midfielder Jordan Angeli.

In the offseason, the Breakers made a number of key moves, starting off by re-signing defenders Stephanie Cox and Kasey Moore. The Breakers then stacked their roster by signing a pair of U.S. Women’s National Team players, defender Rachel Buehler and forward Kelley O'Hara. The Breakers also picked up former Chicago Red Stars midfielder Nikki Washington and keeper Kelsey Davis. At the 2011 WPS Draft in Baltimore in January, Boston selected University of Portland standout midfielder Keelin Winters with its first pick of the draft (first round, sixth overall).

The Breakers had a huge void to fill when the legendary Kristine Lilly announced her retirement. Lilly captained the 2009 and 2010 WPS Breakers and also played from 2001-2003 for the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) Boston Breakers. On Sunday, May 22, the Breakers will retire Lilly's No. 13 during a ceremony at halftime of the 4 p.m. game against the Philadelphia Independence at Harvard Stadium.

    About the Boston Breakers
The Boston Breakers enter their third season with the WPS in 2011. The Breakers returned to women’s professional soccer under a new ownership group, Boston Women’s Soccer LLC last year, for the WPS inaugural season. Originally founded in 2000 as a charter member of the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA), the Breakers were one of eight teams in the first U.S.-based women’s professional soccer league that played three seasons (2001-03) before the WUSA suspended operations in September 2003.

Kick and run, nothing you want to bring your kids to. Very few times will you see 4 or 5 passes strung together. Dreadful, ugly soccer.

Breakers kick and chase is better than BC's kick and chase. Bigger, stronger, faster horses.

This is not true at all. You can say whatever you want, but go and watch the Breakers play and then watch Philadelphia play. Philly plays kick and run. Boston plays possession. And its a great game to watch and a fun and exciting event.
